Basil-Don
http://metro.co.uk/2013/05/09/age-of-consent-should-be-lowered-to-13-in-light-of-stuart-hall-prosecution-top-barrister-says-3747054/ the Daily Mail is going to have a 'field day' with this, personally i dont agree with her views but good to see that people are not totally silenced on such a subject, within a couple of days the gutter press will have whipped up so much hatred that i wouldnt fancy being in her shoes. if free speech doesnt entitle us to express unpopular opinions then its worthless. Loose
Yes, she's entitled to her opinions, even to express them so long as they do not incite others to commit crime but she's a barrister, what gives her the expertise to judge when the age of consent should be? Don't know her background, maybe she qualified in another relevant field such as Child Psychology, Public Healthcare etc etc however her main motivation from what I read is that there are going to be a substantial number of older gentlemen (her clients) being brought to court on charges of sexual offences against minors and this would assist them. Oh my giddy aunt.

Basil-Don
not really that interested in her motivation for saying such remarks and the subject of the debate is kind of irrevalent to me it just gladdens my heart that people are not totally afraid to express unpopular opinions, the BNP digust me but im happy that such a party exists 'whats wrong is wrong to hide'. Loose
I don't think there's any doubt that she is free to say that, and it's exactly the sort of fodder that will get printed in the media because they like people talking shite but I'm interested in why anyone would want to promote such drivel. Mind you 60 years ago they put people in prison for buggering each other so who knows? This is how the un-acceptable becomes acceptable eventually. Always starts with someone introducing the shite to the paper.
The Mayor Of Simpleton
She's not the only one to have said that - Rhondda MP Chis Bryant (Labour) has pushed for this as well. I'd actually increase it to 18, and in some cases consent should only be given if the parties great great Grandparents are still alive!
Basil-Don
18 is clearly too old, terrible to think isnt it that people were imprisoned for buggery,i'm not a sodomite myself but i obviously believe that consenting adults should be able to do as they wish.got to be honest though even a ultra liberal like me isnt too keen on gay adoption, who would have believed that that would have ever been accepted. its clearly more unethical for a 56 year old man like paul weller to have a 21 year old wife then for a 19 year old to have sex with a 14 year old but the law doesnt see this of course. Big J R
I honestly wonder if this woman would allow a 13 year old relative of hers getting 'banged' in her spare room ? As posters have said - She is quite entitled to her view, so I'm entitled to call her a complete and utter loony!! And she's a barrister ?????? Pray God you don't get appearing for the defence when your 14 year old grand-daughter has been violated !!

While I agree the Blair's are odious there's nothing wrong with human rights, its just the way they get interpreted sometimes.
