League Cup Final this Friday

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd get the ball rolling on this.

Fergie has been in charge at United for 9,680 days as I write this. In comparison........

Epsom & Ewell have waited 11,707 days since their last competitive trophy was lifted, when we won the Surrey Senior Cup Final with a 2-1 win over Woking at Sandy Lane, Tooting & Mitcham FC. This was so long ago, it was before I started supporting (cue the Jonah comments, I know!).

In fact it is 5,497 days since our last Final, a 2-0 defeat to Bedford Town at Hendon FC in the Associate Members Trophy Final 15 years ago.

We haven't even scored in a final since Mark Jonas netted in a Southern Combination Cup Final defeat on penalties following a 1-1 draw with Walton & Hersham at Stompond Lane 10,859 days back in August of 1983.

Final stat, and this one is for our defenders. The last time we won a cup AND had a clean sheet was..........30th April 1960 when we defeated Maidenhead United 2-0 in the Corinthian League Memorial Shield at Vale Fram, Wembley FC. That was 19,367 days ago.

So plenty to aim for then!

Come on you Salts! :D

Good luck on Friday. Point is what cup will the league be bringing? If you take Mr Kelsy' view it doesn't matter as he told people from Walton & Hersham and Hampton & Richmond on Tuesday.

Good luck and lets hope its a good game.

Come home absolutely gutted. Never a 3-0 game, but they took their chances from our mistake and an absolute worldie from their right back put the nail in the coffin for us.

Felt we dominated for most of the 2nd half but we just didn't get the breaks!

Still feel we have had a good season and will be back to go one step further in both league and cup next year!

Well done epsom.

Certainly South Park came at us in the early part of the second half, and that was expected as 2-0 can be a very dangerous lead at times and Park had nothing to lose by that stage.

Once the game got a bit niggly about 15-20 minutes into the second half your momentum began to wane and I felt we'd be ok then.

However, I thought that we thoroughly deserved to go in 2-0 up and although the third goal was a cracker that killed the game off as a contest, I feel we won it by taking our chances in the first half. We also hit the post at 0-0 with a free header and our keeper had a fairly quiet first half.

South Park have had a lot of cup glory in recent seasons so it was nice to play so well against a team that are more familiar with the big occasions than we were.

I fully expect the two teams to be there or thereabouts next season.

Final word to Wazza the Park keeper who applauded us behind the goal at the end. He regularly chats with us and is a top bloke.
