Totally agree Duncs - we're having a bit of a love in at the moment you and I!

Reserve team football should be exactly as you say - basically recovery and development. Ideally trying to get the same intensity as 1st team football which I admit is difficult.

CCL Prem should be 20 teams and the rules for step 6 should be relaxed. You could then make that 18 teams tops meaning less midweek football for the div 1 teams. It wouldn't get rid of the 'can they go up or not' scenario, but it would keep the league competitive. In the Elite there are three or four clubs who would be competitive in div 1 so get them in I say. You'd get rid of groundsharing on the whole meaning clubs could survive without having to spend money they don't have. Warlingham and the like could stay in div 1 then. Personally I think they should play predominantly at the cricket club - decent pitch and much better facility than Verdayne Gardens which is poor.

Warlingham would love to play at their home ground in Church Road but unfortunately it falls short of the step 6 criteria

You need seperate changing facilities which it doesnt.

You also need to start on a certain date and the season normally (of late) ends in the first couple of weeks in May and as the cricket section rules the roost thats not possible

Combined counties rules also prevent another game taking part at the same time which means when the 1's were at home the only spare pitch would be verdayne. They have a resssies, third and fourth team and two vet teams, they need three pitches available every week

Thats the reason they took over Verdayne to gain promotion

Sorry mate but I refuse to believe that any reserve team could compete with CCL1 and CCL Prem teams, you have to ask the simple question are the players good enough ?and the answer is a big fat NO,I wish people would stop believing that reserve teams are better than they actually are,Iknow a few clubs who are thinking of disbanding their ressies because they don't get the players coming through and the harsh reality is they cost to much as well.

Duncs, didn't Walton Casuals reserves beat Westfield in the Surrey Premier Cup Final ?  I've also seen Sutton Reserves play and trust me they would easily be in the top 6 of the CCL Premier if not Top 3 they are excellent.

You can't blame Warlingham really. Like Bookham before them, you could only ever see the groundshare being a temporary venture.

Speaking as a supporter of a club that played their last game at their old ground twenty years ago yesterday, I hope you have luck getting a better grading at your ground and we'll hope to see you back soon.

I've suggested before that we should maybe only have 20 clubs in the CCL Prem and it is often discussed here. This is something that should be adopted at the CCL for 2014/15 in my opinion, but this is not just to help the numbers of Step Six clubs, it is also an attempt to help step five clubs whose seasons have been made farcical when they have the success of a Vase or Cup run. Guernsey, South Park and Hanworth Villa have had to play a stupid amount of fixtures towards the end of this season and four less League matches would have enabled them to compete on a more level playing field to those at Kent as an example. Tunbridge Wells at Wembley, Herne Bay in Vase SF last year and Hythe in first round of the FA Cup the season before. Is the Kent League stronger? Certainly the lack of a fixture backlog must help them.

As for the Step Six clubs, if there is a dearth of clubs meeting the facilities, then the Leagues have to lobby the FA to be less restrictive on what constitutes the grading. If all the Leagues put that forward, I'd be very surprised if the FA ignored it, especially while we are in the process of this Step 5 / 6 consultation right now. Maybe lights are a necessity right now, but should they be?

And on the subject of lights, here's one more radical suggestion that would enable all step five clubs to save money. Why do we not all kick off at 1pm on Saturdays? How many times do clubs need to put their lights on for a Saturday 3pm k.o. in the winter? Lots! If we kicked off at 1pm, all clubs at this level (with their own grounds) would make an enormous saving. We all hear suggestions about moving the game to the summer, yet this is much easier to achieve and will save lots of electricity costs for clubs. Also, by removing two home fixtures a season as would happen if we dropped to 20, that would be two less midweek fixtures, saving further money across the board.

Time for the CCL to consider being pro-active here. Guernsey's variation on kick off times this season have shown that it is not a rule that is set in stone.

Sensible suggestions but one I wouldnt support cos I would never get to a game :(

Fair comment for those who have kids games in the morning, but I just think it would save clubs a substantial amount of money at a time when they need to save anything they can.

Perhaps they should be looking at money paid out in other areas first ?

I also think officials fees should be looked at.

Our bulbs are 2kw each which is probably less than 40p an hour. I don't know what tarriff we're on or even who we get the leccy from but I don't think any company charges as much as 20p per kw/h yet.

I think we have 20 bulbs so it costs no more than £8 an hour.
