Your top 5 slough games

Starting this thread as the Mansfield games have now entered my top 5 as a slough fan.

I have only supported properly for 11 seasons so will not be as glamourous as others but here goes.

1. Walsall fa cup game goes straight in here. A great day and one which Paul Merson still says is his worst day of his career. That goal to go 2-1 up and being behind the goal for the next 10 minutes was superb and not like anything I have ever seen before.

2. Mansfield away this year. To go there and sing for 90 minutes and come away with a draw was superb. We did ourselves proud and it was also the first time I saw us play in an all seater that wasn't a B and B cup game.

3. Bryco cup final. The only thing we have won since I have been a supporter. Not the best cup but good enough to get an ATt of 800 and I always liked playing Hampton. At the end watching the medal ceremony in the main stand at Staines with everyone singing "rebels"

4. 2-2 league game away at afc Wimbledon. This is up there for two reasons, the first is that it is the biggest crowd I have seen slough play in front of and the second is to come back from 2 down in front on 2850 people and with a fantastic free kick by mr mcleary. Great day out.

5. Hitchin away in playoffs where we won 2-1. The first real shot I had seen us have at promotion and again the atmosphere was fantastic. Great goal by Adam Martin and for some reason remember Sean sonner at the end skipping towards us just shouting "yyyyeeeeesssss"

Ala Nobby Stiles world cup 1966

1 Gary Attrell's winner 89 min against Millwall 1982. ( 10 against 9 Chalkys missed pen [ and me nearly putting Dilon Evans out in training the Thursday before] )

2 The 2 late, late Goals against Reading a few years later

3 The 3 ( I think Pat Morrissey ) penalties league cup final

4 At Sutton to win the league ( I think 81/82 ) Eggie James bundling the ball the keeper and who ever else over the line.

5 The last game at Wexham Park v Wembley.+ The years after with all the roller coaster rides.

Brain not what it used to be

Memorable games, though not necessarily top 5... the Birmingham FA cup match, winning at borehamwood on the trophy in 98 to silence their scummy big match support, 9-0 at afc wimbledon for the relegation party, ramsgate away with Jamie jarvis' own goal from his arse, ressies at harrow 4-4

Must say I am still gutted to this day missing our 9-0 relegation party but have to have a Wimbledon game in there.

Others I considered were the Salisbury fa cup and wilko goal to win it and earn the Walsall game.

Also canvey a few years earlier with joe cole and Michael carrick in attendance

Rebel yell

Remember it well the hoarding behind the goal collapsed and a Slough Supporter ( Bud) was nearly evicted because of it,  It was because of the pressure of the pushing supporters, Then the wait for the result from another game to confirm we'd Won the league.

WE NEVER DO THING THE EASY WAY.

Difficult choices here since I went to Wembley in 1973 and saw both victories over Football League opposition. However, for sheer excitement:-

Slough 2 v 2 Skelmersdale United 1967 F A Amateur Cup

Slough  1 v 0 Wycombe Wanderers 1970 F A Cup Replay

Slough  3 v 2 St Albans City 1972 F A Amateur Cup

Slough  2 v  1 Blyth Spartans 1973 F A Amateur Cup

Stevenage 0 v 1 Slough 1998 F A Trophy

1st Slough 3-2 Salisbury 31/10/04 - somehow I always knew we'd beat Walsall but this game I had a bad feeling about and we would never have won the replay at their place. The winning goal coming from the legendary Wilko with the beauty of Jenny's commentary "Someone for christ sake just hit it...."

2nd Sutton 0 - Slough 1 22/8/98 - nearly ceased to exist but saved at the last minute and then a makeshift side turns up and beats Sutton in front of 800 odd people. Sutton would go on to win the league comfortably. The record book shows that it was an own goal but I know that it was scored by the veteran of our two Conference spells Mark "Billy" Fiore.

3rd Slough 2 - Boston 0 18/8/90 - our first game in the Conference with the immense Steve Thompson scoring one  of the goals. First game I remember going to but had been in the promotion winning season the year before.

4th Slough 6 - Telford 0 19/10/96 - local boy Lloyd Owusu scores 4, wearing his collar like Cantona, thought we had a real prospect on our hands and wondered whether the club was going places.

5th: Cardiff 3 - Slough 2 - 25/11/97 - run Cardiff close over two games in FA Cup first round before cruelly losing in extra time. In the 15 and half years the stories of the two clubs makes the game even more poignant. At that time I thought we were in touching distance of league football and Cardiff were battling to stay in the football league.

Have to mostly agree with that great list except I would have the 1967 Skelmerdale replay even though we lost-we should have won..instead of your Stevenage game. Also the first Skem game was my first 9000 Slough crowd( no matter what crowd they put in the paper there was 9000 tickets printed and you could not get one for love or money )

1.Vauxhall Opel League. Bromley 0 Slough 1.My favourite game, too.Brilliant atmosphere after the game with Slough

being Champions outright.

Only time I've seen them be Champions. The beer flowed after this!

My nephew[aged 14] was given Steve Thompson's shirt at the end of the game,by the great man himself and still owns it

today!

2.GM Vauxhall Conference game.Stafford Rangers 3 Slough 4. This game sticks in my memory because after

a long trek there,we found ourselves 3-0 at half time, by the mercurial talents of Stan Collymore.

Luckily,he had to go off injured at half-time and then Slough staged a remarkable comeback. When our 4th went in,

the few Slough fans that had made the trip went potty.

3.GM Vauxhall Conference.Slough 2 Boston 0.First ever game in the Conference.

Great atmosphere and excited expectation at Wexham Park.Steve Thompson's 1st goal was a cracker,as he dribbled

by 5 Boston players and drilled an ace shot into the back of the net.The fans went mad.

After this game,we thought Slough were going to pick up where they left off from previous season, only to be brought back to Earth with a bump at next game away to Barnet losing 1-6 to Barnet.

Another 1ST Division[Premier League] player of the future,Andy Clarke, doing the damage.

4.FA Cup. Slough 3 Reading 3. Wexham Park was heaving. We found ourselves trailing 1-3 getting near to the end of the gamewhen Paul McKinnon bulleted a header in the net from a corner and then Colin Fielder, the most unlikely of players, grabbedan equaliser in the dying minutes.Even though,we only drew the game,it felt like a victory.

5.FA Trophy Quarter Final.Stevenage 0 Slough 1. Stevenage thought they would win and so did their fans and their

directors. Broadhall Way had a intimidating atmosphere.Stevenage were clear favourites.Danny Bolt got Slough in the lead. Then late drama when a dubious penalty was awarded.Paul Wilkerson saves the day by saving the penalty.

Slough's into the semi's.

I would go for Reading 3-3 in FA Cup. I remember saying to my old man when the score was 3-1 and 90 minutes were up, lets go, I dont want to see the full time whistle. Glad he said no, stay for the full time whistle (I would have been gutted missing the two goals).

Not a lot of people seem to remember this game, but Stroud 10-0 away in the FA Trophy.

Agree with DJD Wycombe at home and that thunderbolt goal from Hazel.

Altrincham at home 3-3 where they were going for promotion and we needed the points to stay up (first season in Conference I think).

Bromley away to win the league. I remember standing right behind the goal and getting one leg over the hoarding to run on the pitch, but I couldnt get my other leg over (not for the first time in my life - be dum ting) because of the Slough fans behind me all pushing forward to get onto the pitch. Full time on the pitch with the players was great.

Not a favourite match, but I remember us taking a large following to Wycombe on a midweek and thinking we wernt going to get in. It was about 10 mins from KO, loads of Slough queing up and people saying they were going to close the gates soon. I do know some people who didnt get to see the game. That night, our following was superb...

I believe that was Wycombe's record gate at the time ( it still maybe ) and thats not counting the people on the hill overlooking the ground.

Lost 1-0 despite them going down to ten... Great game

The attendance at Wycombe was about 6,000 and something, wasn't it? Wycombe only just shaded it that night.Am I right in thinking that the home match against them was postponed on the Boxing Day fixture and by the time we did play them,it didn't have so much resting on it?

Remember that cracking Ian Hazel goal.Never scored another one as good as that[well, not for Slough].

Vaguely, remember the Altrincham game. In those Conference matches, you did get some bloody good footballers and

some right hard nuts, too.Seem to think Altrincham had two very useful forwards.

Do you remember the Northwich Victoria game at Wexham Park.Seem to think Slough lost 3-5 but that it was a great game to watch. As the years roll by,a lot of games seem to be in a haze and I'm not positive this was the score.

Anyone care to jog my memory!

I would like to agree with all that has been said above and add some games of mine.

1st the amatuer cup semi final in 1972 against Dagenham played at Charlton athletics the valley when it had a capacity of 70000+.

I can remember eating tasty chicken and chips in a basket  what a difference to eating todays rubbish of burger and chips al so alot of slough supporters got in late the game was fantastic with classy players on show game and ended 3-3.

2nd was the replay at the Craven Cottage it was hot and sunny with the Oxford v Cambridge boat race on the same day with the BBC in attendence another cracking game but as so often has happened we lost 2 -1.

3rd v Minehead in the FA Trophy in 1977 took 3 games to settle the result again replay at Minehead coach arrived late but we got our monies worth with extra time and a late trip home 2nd replay was played at Bath and after 2 tight games Dave Russell came up with a scorcher 30 yards out to win the game 1-0.

4th was a mid week league match at Yeovil 3-1 down at half time when Jimmy Brown came on as sub I turned to there supporters and said you will win now as Jimmy could not hit a barn door at the time but he transformed the game scored we won 4-3 and he became a Slough legend during his time with the Rebels.

5th v Chashalton Athletic was another league match in April 1990 about 3 games before we won the Vauxhall Opel league as stated above, it was a fantastic game when at the time we needed the points to go on to win the league the game ended 4-4 and am I right in saying Trevor Bunting saved a penalty as well at the time one of the guys who used to stand with us was known as the bald eagle and he was doing his nut though out the game because of our defensive errors.

6th we had some great games against Wycombe but am I right in thinking we came from 3 nil down to win 4-3 at Wexham Park.

Great memories up the REBELS

Slough 3-3 Reading - 1991 FA Cup, quite incredible comeback with a bullet header in off the crossbar -- come on!

Stevenage Borough 0-1 Slough - Trophy quarter-final 1996.

Slough 5-0 Ru$hden & Diamonds - Conference 1996, hat-trick from Gary Abbott, Apache Indian!

Slough 3-2 Crawley Town - FA Cup replay 2003, an over-head kick from Andrew Deaner and a last minute winner from Bryan Hammatt.

Bromley 1-2 Slough - FA Trophy replay 2008, loved sticking it to the home side's idiotic supporters with their monkey chants.

Just realised 4 of these were midweek games -- how the floodlights add that little bit extra to the drama of a game.

ETA: Well, Reading was a Saturday game, but finished under the lights.
