Yes well done Kent Athletic FC.

I know this sounds a stupid question but why are they called Kent Athletic ? they sound like a Kent (County) super club ;)

It used to be a company works team / social club. The company has long gone but the name has remained.

A couple of reports from anoraks on another Forum, I'm surprised I've beaten Karen and Keeps to the punch:

Saturday 18 May 2013 – Capital Counties Feeder Leagues Trophy (Final) – Attendance: 273 – At Herts County FA, Letchworth

Kent Athletic (black & white stripes/black/black) 0 – 1 Baldock Town (red/red/red) – 0-0 at 90 minutes
Scorers: Baldock Town (own goal 113)
Pitch: rough and not very ready – Weather: a grey day all day

This tournament was founded for clubs in the south-east of England who either were unable to enter the F.A. Vase or declined to enter. The competition has always been a straight knock-out, with no exemptions or seedings. This game was probably the best on offer, unless untold pounds were given to Network Rail, but 273 people were wrong.

The game never got going, on a horrible surface and the game was into extra-time, before the teams eventually produced some sparkle. Gary Christine came closest to breaking the ice, as his long-range effort struck the crossbar. The winning goal came from a right-wing cross, which was headed on, but unfortunately, Kent Athletic’s no. 6 could only skim the ball over his own goalkeeper’s head into the net. Tabby sat enthralled throughout and was saved by seven minutes from a large length of rope.

Reading Senior Cup final is next on his list, together with the names and addresses of all Readings licensee’s, the name of the premises owned or leased thereto and for good measure the local dairy. I’m worried the game could drive him to drink.

Star Man: Gary Christie (Baldock Town) – Café/Pub: Lytton Arms, Park Lane, Old Knebworth, (7/10)

What a good day out apart from what happened between 14.57 and 17.27, without being unkind on the players shall we just say that this as a contest would rhyme with the word white. Truly one of those why are we here afternoons.

Kent perhaps a little unfortunate to lose as Stilwell in the Baldock goal did have a good afternoon keeping out the few shots that were at least on target. We were bedding down for penalties when with seven minutes left of extra time a long throw from the right was headed on by Christie and a Kent defender glanced a header over his own keeper. You had to have a degree of sympathy with the Kent defender who had played on for most of the match with a cut to the head with blood seeping through the gauze and bandage. Not quite of Terry Butcher proportions but there was a fair amount of claret visible.

The match also interrupted a very good tour of North Herts village hostelries taking PW to where he had spent many a happy hour propping up the bar in days gone by. The Lytton Tree in Old Knebworth had a proliferation of ales from Mighty Oak two of which were quaffed and were up to standard. After the match quick swerve to the Red Lion in the village of Preston which is a quintessential village pub. New brewery tick as well with a mild from Arkwright of Preston (Lancashire) being downed.
