Points Tally & Season Appraisal

How does a club that has only been in existence 6 years rack up debts of 2 million? Whether just the manager or not, I'd sooner have Peter Simpson/Gordon Brown in charge of club finances than have Spencer Day anywhere near our club

If he has nothing to do with the finance how could he effect it. I'm very, very, very happy with our current chairman.

Isn't it the manager's position we are discussing?

Spencer Day,regardless of his financial acumen, seems to know his 'onions' on the football field. That was all I was saying.

This is what I know as FACT Steve Easterbrook and Steve Bateman have Slough Town in there hearts. So can I ask how many of the people that post on here go up to any of the Steve's and talk to them?

Sometimes I come on here and read some comments ( I'm talking about the whole season ) When if asked they'd both chat about it.

IE why was Adam Logie on the sidelines at the game and only had 3 subs. I know the answer to both of these Q because I asked.

Get the facts before having a go.

Is it fair to pester the chairman and the manager with questions, when surely they have enough on their plate.

Not all of us are club frequenters and so don't get to know all the inside information. That's why we have this forum !

I'm sure the chairman and manager would soon get pissed off, if supporters kept asking inane questions to them. That's why I would like to see a proper in attendance forum offered to the fans, perhaps twice a season, to clear the air and to address certain issues. This would be a great way of bringing unity with the fans and the club.

What do others think?

If you want a convicted fraudster managing our club, I suspect you'll be in a minority.

There's many fraudsters that haven't been convicted, running clubs up and down the country[allegedly!].

Keith Scott is my preferred choice,as I've said previously.

Have been supporting the club for more years than I care to remember and for the first time ever, even though I read it daily, felt almost compelled to actually register and for what they are worth add my comments

I live in Slough and love NL football full stop and must have watched, as is the case most years, about twenty different teams this season, normally midweek, but still reckon have seen 80% of our home fixtures and 20% away, and do you know what, the only reason I haven't watched them all, and I apologise if this makes me sound fickle, (at my age I assure you I am not) is that yet again, whilst promising so much, we have ultimately achieved nothing.

The manager as nice a person and as passionate about the club as he is, and I have had numerous conversations with him over the years to testify to both, is by definition of the title responsible for all team matters and this time around after four equally unproductive seasons nothing has changed, and as happy as he was to rightly take the plaudits for the cup run equally he now has to accept the inevitable, if knowing you lot, rather polite criticisms aimed in his direction for another year of disappointment, and perhaps now is the perfect time for him to either quietly step aside or if needed, and I hate saying it really, be politely nudged from the dugout from whence he has served our little club so well and for so long from.

He's an honest guy and he must be asking himself, how many years (some on here may suggest chances) does he, do we, think a manager, any manager is likely to get?

Is being a decent egg enough justification on it's own for him to stay, does it constitute enough mitigation to allow him to perennially underachieve or fail, however narrow the margins may be in doing so, and if only to galvanise the cub, inject some new ideas, new blood and perhaps new enthusiasm I reluctantly suggest a new appointment is needed and with some urgency

Who can take over, is always the million dollar question. Someone mentioned Terry Brown....now come on lets get real. Terry Brown and Slough is as likely a possibility as Julian Cary in Die Hard 6 but there must be sensible alternatives, that can appease our extremely loyal chairman and board whilst meeting the 'hopes' and notice I now say hopes as opposed to expectations that us lot have, and one such possibility is Mark Eaton and I assume and this is the bit that convinces me, and a lot of you might not even remember him, his assistant/joint manager however it is they work, ex Portsmouth legend Alan Biley who I remember chatting to, I have to say in awe, after the match a couple of seasons back now following a cracking match which I think we won 4-3

Eaton did wonders on what I assume was a skinny budget at league rivals Aylesbury whose supporters speak very highly of him, he then left if I am not mistaken to steer Hemel Hempstead away from what looked like inevitable relegation at the end of last season and after a bit of research on google, is now apparently part of the management team at Arlsey who Saturday just missed out on the play offs. He has managed at this level and beyond, must live reasonably locally, and knows, one assumes loads of local players that could then compliment the nucleus of what lets not forget is a very talented squad, and could be exactly the type of fit we could realistically be looking for

Would he want the job, who knows, but I am confident we would remain an attractive proposition for many managers, and someone like Eaton would be a far more realistic alternative than others mentioned, plus he knows the league well

Nathan - Derek Sweetman was ( is ) a sunday morning level manager. You could have given him untold wealth to spent and we would still be in this league. It seems that to get out of these type of " minor " leagues requires a good motivator-Bateman while pretty experienced at this level does not seem to be one! Also while he was a fair center back he was more run of the mill than great! And that seems to be governing his managerial ways.

In his very first post Nathan says that 80 points would be enough for the playoffs in most of the other leagues around and above us. That means that this league is harder because 83 points meant we didn't make the playoffs. How do you moaners not see that...

I thought this point had been covered before?

It could be that, apart form a half dozen or so clubs at the top, this division has a lot more poorer sides in it than other divisions and not to qualify for the play-offs on 83 points means you just haven't

picked up enough points from the poorer sides as well as the top teams.

Or, as you say, this division could have been harder to win than the other division 1's.

I would say an impossible question to answer.

I think we need to stick with Steve who is a good advertisement for football to be back in Slough as he has a likeable persona and a good rapport with the local media.

Our number 1 aim is to get back to Slough and id rather run the club on a budget with Steve than get any of these so called big time charlies who demand money left right and centre and cause bad press.....

Next season we will be up the top again but if we don't go up I will still be here.......who knows what teams we will be playing....perhaps again some will be better and we cannot help that

Totally agree Reading, it is impossible to say, all we can say is that we need to measure ourselves against the teams around us and when Royston can pay £10k for a transfer and still miss out on the playoffs then questions must be asked as to how well we did to finish above them on a budget.

Mark,

I think we'll have Roystonjez on here saying that they didn't pay the 10k you say they paid.

Welcome on board, Nets, I thought Mark Eaton and Alan Biley seemed a good combination and their Aylesbury team tried to play football in the right way and also seemed to do well with inexperienced players.

Having said that, they weren't successful in keeping Hemel Hempstead out of the relegation places, when they took over in the latter part of last season. So what makes you think they would be right at getting Slough promoted ?

I'm guessing Sir Alex Ferguson set out to win the league last season, but he didn't, even with what I could imaging would be described as a 'healthy' budget and a more than able squad in comparison to the rest of the league.

True, but Manchester United have a host of other very big, very rich clubs to compete against. Even then, 3rd place in the Premier League is a bad season for them!
