OldTowner
Okay - we ( the Club ) have secured Premier Football next season - so let's get down the M25 Tuesday evening and celebrate. Could do with a good turnout. Let's make some noise. Now that the Team are "safe" let's hope for a good "relaxed" performance Come on Supporters Come on Town. Enfield United
I know what you mean OT, but i'd rather see us play on the edge with a snarl and winners all over the pitch. As for a drink, how many fan's are gonna buy Steve, Jason, Bryan and Peter a drink either tonight or Saturday? Let's face it they've had to put up with 'No idea' and 'no plan B's' accusations all season amongst 'players are not good enough' over and over again. Fact is they never panicked and Plan A has worked with 2 games remaining. They are in the decision making hot seas and to be shot at but yet again it's another successful season, which has met the main target of the season. Now let's hope the club can find a little more for the playing budget which can improve the starting X1
OldTowner
Now let's hope the club can find a little more for the playing budget which can improve the starting X1 EU, Let's hope so, but as you know :- As a SUPPORTERS run Club we have no mega rich benefactor to plough money in - unlike 99% of the League. Therefore, the only way we will find more cash for the playing budget ( and other essential items ) is for the SUPPORTERS to support the Club financially, become Members, attend events such as Social do's, use Butlers Bar, find some outside sponsors ( ie work / links ), buy season tickets, buy 50/50 tickets etc etc. It is extremely hard for money "just to turn up" without a massive input from all. It's a SUPPORTERS run Club - so we need to do what it says on the tin !!!!! Difficult, yes - but achievable.

DerekR
The NL Vidiprinter gives the result as a 1-0 victory to Thurrock.
OldTowner
DerekR. Thurrock 1 - 0 correct. As usual we did not come out after half time and conceded in 46th min. Q - JUST WHAT DO THEY PUT IN THE HALF TIME DRINKS - Cos it does not seem to work. How many goals have we let in between 45 and 55 min - Jim C , answer please. Sorry to say, we were fairly poor. Several players just don't seem to be up for it. Once again, we gave the ball away time after time after time. Need to play better on Saturday to finish on a HIGH. StoneCold
It was evident in the play that one team had something to play/fight for and the other didn't. Big lack of effort, commitment & determination. We were comfortable/allowed to pass the ball around with ease around the half way line but as soon as the ball moved forwards we were always second best to it. Why Hunt played the full 90 is beyond me, always looked like he couldn't be bothered tonight and gave the ball away time and again. I wonder how the players would feel if we showed the same attitude now that we are safe and not bother turning up on Saturday??
CD Towner
Totally free that some players weren't interested - although more worrying is that they have been like that for a few weeks even before we were safe. The only ones to emerge with any credit last night for me was Imber, White, Allen, Hope and Wallace
Steph
Good summation from both of events last night. I suggested that we play other squad members who were playing for their places next season and Andy suggested that we could be criticised by other clubs if we lost the two games. Well we played an unchanged team last night who consider that they will remain in the squad next season and there was a lack of effort compared to Thurrock. So ring the changes against Casrshalton and we might see a fighting display. Finally what was all the niggling at the ref about. He didn't do too bad though I felt that Liam's booking was harsh but then I was remote from the action. Similarly if he was going to book Liam and Lee what about the crunching tackles by our opponents. The trick is that when the ref blows for a foul stay down and get players booked. It worked for Thurrock. Similar to the gamesmanship when the sub was made. We on the side lines knew who was going to be subbed as he got himself furthest from the benches. Still no booking for slow subbing.
Steve Newing
Opinions are opinions . My view is that we could have been a couple of goals to the good at half time. Adam 2 chances, Tyler 2 chances ( maybe a pen when clipped as about to shoot ) , Lee White free header at corner. I think saying the players weren't bothered is harsh , yes I'd agree two or three were off their game and Thurrock looked threatening on the break when they went 1-0 ( their number 7 Danny Green in particular ). We passed the ball well at times but found it difficult to break them down in the second half as they defended deep so as to deny us space in behind. We still had chances and forced their keeper in to making a couple of decent saves. Steve was looking for us to win the last two games and picking the same 11 that got us across the line on Saturday at Hendon showed his intent. I would have said on what I saw last night that we were worth a point . Thurrock in my opinion are a better team than , carshalton , Hastings , Lewes, W&F , harrow , Cray and shouldn't have been in the relegation battle . Not been at the last two games but worried about your last sentence. If the players believe they will remain in the squad on recent performances, then there needs to be a reality check made otherwise we will be in the same position again. Jim Cunneen
Right here is the answer to your question. We have conceded 96 goals this season - yes really! I think it is more of a concern how many goals we concede in the last 10 mins (plus added time) 21.... mins 5 4 10 3 15 6 20 3 25 3 30 6 35 4 40 7 45 5 50 9 55 3 60 2 65 4 70 5 75 6 80 4 85 9 90
Tom S
I think it is more of a concern how many goals we concede in the last 10 mins (plus added time) 21.... mins Surely that reflects the fact that in many games we were pushing for an equaliser in the closing stages and thus liable to get caught on the counter. And also that the last 'five' minutes is more like ten giving more scope for goals to be scored.

andyetfc
Best score loads more goals before we get to the last 10 minutes then.
CD Towner
Or have a functional team that actually can defend and works hard to improve its defending. I've seen little evidence of that this season and the stats show it. I seem to recall Steve coming out with the comment a few months back that he'd rather play attractive football and win 4-3 than not display the attacking skills we have and win 1-0 - or something like that! Bottom line is that if it was 4 down this season, we would be in significant trouble going into the last game of the season.
Steve Newing
I would say that 51 goals conceded in the first 21 league matches of the season , then 30 goals conceded in the 20 games since is a marked improvement and also a different approach to the games. Goals scored is very similar 29 in the first 21 and 30 in the next 20. On the other point the lowest we can finish is 18th so we wouldn't have gone down with 4 being relegated as well. Fact is the team have improved 2nd half of the season in all aspects , goals conceded , goals scored and points gained.
OldTowner
Fair points. However, not the best football to watch, but a massive learning curve all round. Still, let's make Saturday v Carshalton a good end to the "survival season" with a WIN and good display. Then, sort out squad for new season. If we are to improve league aspirations then improvement all round is a must. First season at this level - job achieved - well done to all. Next season - onwards and upwards ( we hope ! )
StoneCold
Good point OT The clubs objective from the outset was to consolidate out Ryman Prem status for next season and thats exactly what we have achieved. No team in any league will play to their best for every game, however there have been far too many games were we have not even tried and heads have dropped to quickly. That said there have also been many games where if the silly mistakes in midfield & defence were cut out along with a bit more clinical finishing upfront we would have picked up more points. A good season with many points to dwell over but if we can add 2 or 3 players of quality to the first XI not just squad players and with ironing out the points raised above I can defiantly see a top half finish for next season. Come on Town, lets finish the season off in style...5-0 win on Sat would be just fine
townerboy
although play offs would be nice next season, lets not start calling for change if we are mid table. its going to take time, and money
