Midweek CCL Action (Results & Reports)

Recommended Posts

South Park will have played 9 after their game at Hartley Wintney tonight. Then they have just 1 less league fixture than GFC to fit in by May 7th - followed by a Cup Final on 10th. Have to respect them for the quiet way they've just gone about their work - don't see any of them complaining about fatigue etc.

... and I think we'll end up playing over 60 league and cup matches this season

Yes, botton teams are fighting for their lives, just see last nights results ! Certainly exciting stuff...

But Sandhurst and Dorking look the most likely candidates for relegation at the moment, and 1 other from 4 clubs who are all in the mix.

Since Dorking were promoted back into the CCL Prem by coming 3rd in CCL Div.1 the last 4 seasons do not make for good reading., Dorking's next 2 following seasons they were bottom and 3rd from bottom respecively both having been reprieved, and last season they just about avoided relegation by coming 5th from bottom., But yet again they are back in the relegarion zone this season currently 2nd from bottom, so they are the serial relegation battlers... but this time I can't see any reprieval for the botton 2 clubs maybe bottom 3.

So why has Dorking with such a good history and heritage ended up in the dulldrums over these past few years ?

Having supported them most of my life and commented loudly on here and in other places, it is because

A) the good history and heritage is a myth in terms of success

Apart from the fifties we had an expensive blip in the 80/90s and have been poor on all counts since

B ) The current ownership has tried to recover from former club owners mis management and this has impacted on player budget

and internal investment

C) DFC has spent too much time and effort fighting its landlord Mole Valley DC (and probably cash). This might not be DFCs fault.

D) In the period referred to we have had too high a turnover in management arguably. Certainly too high a turnover in players. Any CCl manager or sadly below, just needs to ask A DFC supporter about most players talents at the cheap end.

E) Dorking is full of old farts. At 53 Im one of the younger ones , apart from WAGS, TRS, and the ever youthful Hurdy. At every club, good people get old. If we dont keep players, we dont keep their families and mates involved, No continuity, no fresh blood, enthusiasm.

F) High Horse Time. We groundshared with Bookham to our cost.

G) Dorking FC still fights to live another day. As someone who wanted our owners out, I have to say the Collins family and friends have been resolute in keeping football alive in Dorking town centre.

If we regroup in div 1 and come back stronger, we will still be a success. If we wallow in Div1 mid table through the decade, unless we are producing Dorking youth players to a higher level, we will have failed. Make it a carpark.

Score more goals, stay up, and lets progress next season.

Friday night rant over!

What an absolutely fantastic Saturday.

Feet up on the sofa in the afternoon. Two great old war films, (both in stereo surround-sound), then a pleasant evening flicking through the TV channels.

No mobile - Made such a lovely change
