Midweek CCL Action (Results & Reports)

Recommended Posts

For once I agree with Bobuk about something!

If Guernsey do not go up this year with Egham it will be a massive blow for the other teams at the top who will find Guernsey far more difficult to pass next season.

Bizarrely it could leave the scenario in May where it might actually be to Epsom's longer term benefit to let Guernsey have the points when we meet on 5th May. I'm not saying it should happen and I'm certainly not saying it will happen as our players have done great this year, but if we were to win against Cove and South Park in the next few days we would be almost assured of third place, and with almost certainly just one club going up from next season onwards again it might be considered a waste of any club's finances in competing against them if they were around next year.

That's not being defeatist, that's being financially sensible as we all know that if they are still here next season, Guernsey will be better prepared, will have three less Vase matches to play because of their Second round exemption and will be unlikely to face the same weather problems because of work on their pitch. I think even Egham would secretly accept that a fully fit first choice Guernsey eleven would be better than theirs.

So if Cove and South Park let us win this week, maybe we'll do them all a favour and let Guernsey win on 5th May ***

I happen to think that their best eleven, fully fit, is significantly better than anyone else's in this League but it's only opinion uk Sub and I understand your club loyalty on this.

Yeah I totally understand and. I respect your opinion. I think opinions will vary on who is the best eleven for Egham though. It is also difficult given John Hamsher took six of our regular starting 11 to Chipstead earlier in the season. Hows he doing at Chipstead now anyway? Lol (couldn't resist having a small dig at him)

Having played both Guernsey and Egham recently i think they both have strong qualities.

In my opinion player for player Guernsey edge it on quality and i think their passing and movement is slightly better.

However i thought when we played Egham on Saturday thier work rate was exceptional and as a team we put on our best defensive performance of the season to kep them at bay and we had too.

However what i have seen of Cove and i hate to say South Park!! They are a match for anyone on their day. Another team who really impressed me recenlty is Farnham Town.

I've been involved in the CCL now for 6 years and i think this is the most competitive it has been in my time.

The title is still not decided and nor is relegation. Some may argue that the standard is not as good as it was in previous years but i personally don't agree.

Taking in Farnham Town v Dorking tonight.

The other two Premier games were tempting as was a first trip to Farleigh Rovers.

Will report back when I get home about 10.30pm ish!

Having played against both, twice, (well one and a half v Egham) I think Guernsey are the better and stronger side. Take nothing away from Egham though, they've put the points on the board and have been sitting at the top of the league for the majority of the season and so if they go up (which I think they will and said I thought they would win the league a couple of months back) then fair play to them.

The Guernsey defence has found its level tho in my opinion. Unless they have more in reserves coming through?

Even the Guernsey keeper last night said their defence has been lacking all season. I think Guernsey are more attack minded whereas Egham seems to be better balanced talent wise.

Not criticising Guernsey - just my honest opinion.

Most teams running on empty Egham have had a nightmare with fixtures but have drawn how important will them points be? They look crucial

With all respect, they are not being asked to play the volume Guernsey are. Being asked to play four plus games a week, Next nine games in thirteen days. Not complaining just stating facts.

There's not a lot of difference. Egham have played 10 games in April so far, GFC have played 12.

South Park will have played 9 after their game at Hartley Wintney tonight. Then they have just 1 less league fixture than GFC to fit in by May 7th - followed by a Cup Final on 10th. Have to respect them for the quiet way they've just gone about their work - don't see any of them complaining about fatigue etc.

Point taken, but nobody else are not being asked to play three matches in less than 48 hours or four in four days, its the lack of any recovery period. Thirteen games in 25 days.

You lot do know there are more teams in this league to talk about then just Guernsey?????

Some undoubtedly enjoying fishing with them, others seem genuinely annoyed at their inclusion in the league, the novelty of their situation creates topics that wouldn‘t otherwise arise and a couple of Guernsey posters respond to everything (there are non-Guernsey posters who do this). Its understandable if a little tedious at times.

I don't think anyone can disagree with that. You need two full squads to be able to that.

Anyroadup - next season will be better. If you're still in the CCL you'll miss out the first few rounds of the Vase, if you go up you'll be in the Trophy which is a smaller competition and the way the FA Cup is organised these days you need to have a bit of luck on your side to get further than the 1st qualifying round. And we can't have another season like we've had weather-wise for a good few years. Can we?

As I said a few weeks ago - in years to come you'll look back at this season with a smile on your faces. 'Remember that year we had to play all those games in April?'.
