marksandwell
A REFLECTION ON A SEASON Just thought as I need a break from work (Not just vicars that work on a Sunday) I would give a few thoughts as to the highs & lows of MY season just passed, may encourage a response or two. On the lows: The then Manager refused to play one of our best players from the start of the season yes my man Matt. Everyone was crying out for him to be used, but no go - the then Manager wasn’t having it. The then Manager left the season half way through, a totally unacceptable situation especially as it was just to a club one division higher. The CEO resigning a real blow after all the good work he had carried out, and I believe the good work he can/should still be carrying out. Stadium not a Paddy in site, not a skip to be seen, not a “Hard Hat” area to been seen. The unfortunate event of late with passionate supporters being banned from the club, bad taste all round. Water problems throughout the league, creating fixtures issues/postponements/and bloody cup ties squeezed in where ever. The miserable welcome from the “Elite members Club” at Met Police, and there officials. (Shame nice Reggie Kray Stadium) Players coming and going promising so much delivering so little. The last six games. On the highs: Matt Bodkin playing nearly all the matches second half of the season. Visiting some grounds which are suspect but have good friendly people. Loved Enfield, mind you the result helped. Like Whitehawk - poor ground, poor team but good people around the club. The generosity and support of fellow MFC supporters who rallied around to clear snow, buy an Electronic substitute board, and of course the VERTI DRAIN. Going away on the Sunshine Happy bus to away matches, what a great experience what a great crack and lovely lovely people. (Would highly recommend it) Giving us real optimism and hope after Christmas, albeit a few weeks but yes we can do it. Not just are we going to avoid the drop this season. The friendliness and welcome from ALL the officials, Stewards, and those great great people the MISA team who make the club tick on every match day. The wonderful people and friends that I meet up with each match. Some just faces in the crowd, who just give a passing nod, others who will share a good session putting the world to right. The players and their family who talk to you like a long lost buddy, someone who is going “over the top” with you and share every moment of teh game with you. The wonderful females at the club around the grounds who can dish out as good as they get. (And certainly put up with all the crap I and my friends give them) Yes I have to say not only have we stolen “We are the gate, we are, we are, we are the Gate” from Quadrophenia, but you know what I believe we also live the tag line to the film Quadrophenia – A Way of Life. Margate Football Club has been and will always be "A way of Life", and thank you to all you kind lovely people who make me want to come again next season. Oh and some of the football wasn't bad either!!!!!
michael
talking of next season- when does the season start ? for some-these things take a bit of planning. serious question-hopefully not as bad as the usual: 'when are the fixtures out' -but along similar lines . so when does the first game of ryman 2013/14 start ? with 24 teams and thus 4 more games to fit in, ,one assumes at least a week earlier which suggests 10 august, but dangerous to assume-it could even be 3rd august !! Done a bit of gargling, but can't find dates anywhere. You would think that clubs need to know by now when the season starts-and so do some spectators. does anybody know ? If nothing else-we should be away-lewes and a weekend in brighton would be perfectly acceptable, and also natterly brings this back to the quadrophenia reference above
