Amersham Town Annual Reprieve

Recommended Posts

Ah - It's that time of year again.

Amersham Town's annual reprieve from relegation despite finishing in the bottom 2 (again) and fielding ringers galore and then lying about it this season.

Risborough deserve a go surely? And would Broxbourne qualify for promotion?

Both teams will have the criteria in place facilities wise in order to gain promotion this season.

So providing Risborough finish in the top 7, then I can't see the league making any other decision other than 2 up, 2 down.

Has the Hellenic still got clubs in Div 1 without floodlights? Could Holmer be switched as well to make up their numbers if they go down?

Went to Amersham last night as I thought it may be the one and only time I visit the ground in SSML and spoke to someone in the know and yes they have applied to the Hellenic League but with the new owner/ committee members being formed its not a done deal, never mind trying to jump the hurdle of getting FA approval. Smaller league, less traveling, less mid week games due to many clubs not having floodlights, are the reasons...

Cracking Ground. Decent floodlights. And for what? What a waste of investment.

Clearly they have muppets in charge who dont understand football and dont want to take the club forward. Employing Sunday League managers who are prepared to cheat and lie and bend the rules.

Maybe the Hellenic League and virtual Park Pitches is the best thing for them.

Question - How much was the grant from the Football Foundation to Amersham Town FC to enable them to totally redevelop their changing rooms and clubhouse, have a new pitch laid and new floodlights a few years back?

How has that investment been spent?

The club has a minimal youth set up, no reserves and now they want their first team to play in a Parks League that doesnt need floodlights because they, reading between the lines "cant be bothered with the travel".

I think the Grant involved may have been in the realms of hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Imagine if they had given a properly run club some of that money.

It is a disgrace.

Last time I played at Raynors Lane they didn't have lights? Have they got them now?

I believe that there are a few clubs in Hellenic D1 East without lights - Finchampsted and (I think) Milton United have no lights at present.

Yes - cracking ground. Lights opened last season.

Agreed, nice pitch and good bar. Their Vets side play us on Sundays and use the main pitch
