Trouble ahead for Banstead?

TRS

Recommended Posts

I've been watching the 'Public Notices' from Reigate & Banstead Council printed in the Dorking Advertiser for some weeks now, Trevor.

There have been several, and I must say, hard to translate exactly without seeing the plans.

I reckon a lot of that playing area is going to disappear.

Looks like a redevelopment of the site isn't to their favour:

It will be built around Banstead FC. If anything, I reckon the new houses will bring possibility of more support for the club. If anyone wants to view the plans they can be found on Reigate and Bansteads website...planning application search....application number search....then input 13/00138/OUT

It might well benefit Banstead F.C., UK....

....BUT - I could see their costs/rental etc., going through the roof.

Surrey local authorities, (mainly), are NOT know for their benevolent generosity to non-league football clubs ! There are one or two exceptions, but that's about all.

I know most people think local Councils screw non-league clubs but I know that Banstead were granted permission for 8 all weather pitches with floodlights and a new 3g synthetic surface in 2011 so the local council appears to of supported Banstead in their previous ambitions for their club.

The local Council also granted Horley permission for their clubhouse, Redhill FC new turnstiles and South Park their changing rooms, turnstiles etc etc...

One of those exceptions to the rule councils hopefully for Banstead.

Although like ex-el gaffer I could choose not to comment, I feel that it should be pointed out that Banstead get the bare minimum that enables them to survive. The council have no interest in the club whatsoever and Banstead's site was granted permission for the 3g pitches, but most definitely not Banstead Athletic who will not be playing at Merland Rise once the current lease expires in 2017 as the council are looking to cease footballing activities there. Much of this was common knowledge back in 2010 and had a bearing on why we had to leave Merland Rise in the first place.

They, like many other clubs including my own, are at the mercy of others and if there are any long term Banstead fans left out there, I sympathise with them as I know what you're going through.
