upthegate
We credit the team when they do well and I for one have welcomed the new management. But equally we should not be afraid to let them know when things aren't right. That performance last night was not acceptable at all. I can accept losing but the lack of desire was disappointing to say the least. Surely being in the play offs and having such an important game should be enough to motivate the players but clearly not. I felt sorry for the sponsors having to pick a MOM, where do you start!. I know I am not alone as that is the first time in a long while the final whistle has been greeted by silence. No applause ! Yes we are still in the play offs and I know its not doom and gloom, we are in our best position for years, but we still shouldn't be afraid to criticize. Gerald Threegoals
I agree that it was a dire performance all round and can't think of very much positive to come out of it. It wasn't as if East Thurrock were anything special - if we had been up against a decent side it would have been a far heavier defeat. I can only think that the team were wary of pushing themselves too hard because of the match tomorrow - four games in a week is ridiculous at this level. BlueGate Alan
Agree with above, will still put up a MOTM poll but nobody really stood out for me in this game.
Coffin Ender
I can only think that the team were wary of pushing themselves too hard because of the match tomorrow That would be mad given that last night's game was crucial. All games now are big but that was bigger than Thursday. ETU are now right up our backsides. We had the chance to peg them back. Given the choice better to win last night and lose Thursday than the other way round.

It's only one more game than a "normal" week and I'd like to think they could make the effort and "push" themselves just a bit !
Broadstairs Dave
Can anyone explain to me why ETU no 5 remained on the pitch after that deliberate handball as last man ? I always thought that was a straight red card offence or are the rules different for the Ryman league?
blueblood
I think he remained on the pitch because in the end he owned up and said "I didn't mean to do it"!!!!!!!!!!
dflman
A poor game played in such murky such conditions that our low energy floodlights made it difficult for a lot of us to see clearly up the other end from the Coffin End but did see some poor defending for their goal. Agree with all the sentiments here and elsewhere that we played very poorly - apart from not giving that red card the ref failed to see all the tricks that ET pulled in their smash and grab trip to HDP, tricks that I don't see us learning anytime soon. We failed to realise that their keeper was a big confident fellow who was continually swallowing up all the high balls we put into the area. We improved when Tommy Murphy appeared I thought. Also think that the kids did a good job as replacement choir but that had no bearing on this performance one way or the other. Thrash Lewes please ! neeteretep
I thought it was a dire performance last night and it is the first time I have walked out before the final whistle this season. Can not understand why Brown did not start in midfield, I think he is a better option than Burns and I would have started with Murphy. With him and Bodkin on both sides we seem to be able to split the defense and put the ball into the penalty area, also Murphy and Dolby combine well on the left as we saw when Murphy came on. But the biggest problem we have is if you DO NOT CHALLENGE FOR THE BALL you can not expect to win it if you do not challenge for it, time and time again last night we would not jump or challenge for the ball just stand by and watch. COME ON BOYS LET'S WIN IT TOMORROW. Also we were made to change our shirts after 5 mins WHY? We are the home side the away team knows our colours so why do we change? Is there a fine for them for not coming with the right strip?( This would help to offset the fine we will have to pay regarding Charshalton. You could say that the change of strip effected the way way we played.
Cookie
Was poor and for the first time in many years I got "bored" We have to "want" to win game and that never seemed to be the case last night i.m.o.(though I'm sure some will say they really were trying). But were they really up for it as they should have been?. Again misfiring up front and in defence at times showing naivety & panic. As I've said countless times before, defenders backing off and backing off when they are faced with a player running with the ball at them. Those players know who they are who are doing this without the need to be named. Stand your ground chaps and do not allow oppositions a bigger goal to shoot as as would not be the case if they were closed down quicker.Sad to say but in that mood Lewis will trounce us unless we change our attitude. We cannot rely on other teams misfortunes though we are getting lucky lately but it wont continue that way. We have to get results for ourselves. We are nearly there so lets not Ublow it now. Big effort tomorrow night please BIG BIG effort.
Blue Banshee
the strip change was down to the officials not being able to clearly tell the difference between the backs of the shirts at a distance.

Did it help them ? and who is paying the laundry bill for the extra set of shirts used, ETU ?
