All we want is a football ground in Slough

Lets concentrate on the most pressing issue for our football club.

We desperately need to get back into the borough so that we can return to something of our former glories both on and off the pitch. Whilst great work is already being done with the Youth setup and the Academy we still need to build strong links with the town we represent.

The cub can be at the centre of the town and we know the interest is out there which gates of over 2,000 against Mansfield, Yeading and Walsall in recent years shows.

As we know the current proposal to develop Arbour Vale has now stalled with interference from central government who are looking to force the council to build a school on the site. I am in no way against the school but they already have a site earmarked and should that not work out I am sure they could find elsewhere.

Years of hard work have already gone into the proposed development and we cannot now let this opportunity be snatched away.

I have now finally had my proposed petition approved by HM Government and the link is:

Please find the time to click on this sign up and forward it on to all of your friends and family to show this is what we want in our town. Whilst I’ve focused on the central government interference this petition should just be used to support our great club and hopefully can help in some slight way with our return to the borough.

Unfortunately in the petition itself I could only use 1000 characters to describe the situation and it is difficult to sum up our plight in such a short space. It may be sensible if in passing on the link to the petition you also pass on the link to this post to try and deal with some of the other questions that are inevitably forthcoming.

People often ask what is the situation with Wexham Park. This really is quite simple. Firstly, it is in private ownership and going back there is no different to ground sharing. We would be required to pay market rent, we wouldn’t benefit from the bar or conference facilities and we would be unable to become fully self sufficient. Should the owner of the ground subsequently wish to develop the facility or obtain change of use the club would be booted out and we would be back to square one.

Secondly, part of the site falls within the boundary of South Bucks Council who have previously frustrated attempts to develop the ground which is the ultimate cause of our problem.

Wexham Park therefore is not an option.

We need our own ground, in the borough of Slough, where what we earn through the bar and public events can be used to support the club and build a community for the people of Slough. The proposal at Arbour Vale meets those criteria whilst also providing other community facilities and much needed affordable housing for our growing and thriving town.

No matter what we think about what is going on on the pitch this is something that we should all be able to get behind.

It is open for a year, but I think that is the default and maximum amount it can be open for. We just need to collect as many signatures as quickly as possible to show our support for this development.
