Match day Experience

CD Towner

Recommended Posts

Having now been at the QE for 18 months or so, a couple of observations ive made that we could perhaps look to do to improve things at ETFC:

1) The pre match atmosphere is very quiet and dull. Some music playing from say 2.15 (when I usually arrive!) would certainly be good to hear and build up the atmosphere prior to kick off

2) as the teams come out, perhaps some entrance music and an announcement on the tannoy? I know this sometimes happens but not always and can sometimes not be loud enough

3) I noticed at Harrow yesterday they have a player of the month award - this could be a good thing for us to try - perhaps a website vote giving the winner?

Any thoughts on the above or additional suggestions? Do the board and committee read this forum and take fans opinions on board?

I reckon the matchday experience could be improved by some more chanting. I was impressed with the Wealdstone away fans singing "walking in a Wealdstone wonderland" (some wonderland that must be!), but our fans have usually been eerily silent, save an occasional barrage of abuse aimed towards any goalie with the temerity to wear a pink kit. Which I'm all in favour of.

How about having a go at "In your Lowestoft slums" next time they turn up at the QE2? Perhaps something less aggressive to start off with, a bit of "Enfield till I die"? We've easily got enough fans to get something started.

As for the pre-match atmosphere, the music is both too quiet and too sh*t. The tannoy announcement is a good idea though, as is the online vote, as long as the presentation isn't needlessly long.

CD Towner-Just an opinion, I would deem it very unproffessional should any board member make an official statement about Club policies and plan's on a public/supporters forum such as this one.

Any statements are generally made via e-mailing to members before anyone else.

Your 3 suggestions above are very valid. What I would suggest is you approach a board member with these idea's and assist in implementing them. We are a supporters run club where supporters and just like our board/Members run the club and events on voluntary basis. The volunteers at the club have done brilliant this season as always but I know we could do with more.

Agree with the comment about the music on the tannoy being nowhere near loud enough ... and definitely like the idea of an internet based poll on the Official Website for supporters to vote for their player of the month.

Most important aspect for me is the atmosphere behind the goals - we always (even on a bad day) have a good 150 supporters who will stand behind the goal. But there doesn't seem to be any large "groups" who all know each other and are confident to sing song/chants and back each other up. Every game I manage to attend (I've been to about 5 home games this season only due to Army commitments) I always make a point of standing behind the goal, in the centre, and near the back. In that area, there's about 4 people I know, and who know me too - (Jack the Groundsman, Nicky Fartarse and a couple of others whose names escape me - apologies!) - we do give it a good go with making noise, but it can get a bit frustrating when no-one else behind the goal joins in.

What we NEED - is people who genuinely want to get involved with singing/chanting to join us in the middle of the stand and join in with all the songs - regardless of if you feel embarrased by it. You don't need to know anyone - as soon as you join in with a few songs then we'll know you're a kindred spirit and you'll feel more than welcome.

I get the impression that people do want to sing and chant more but don't want to be the ones that "start it all off" ... which is understandable if you don't really know anyone there.

Maybe we can organise a sort of "Ultras" area behind the goal (I may even get a flag of some description made up) where people know that if they stand in that area, then they're in the area where people want to make as much noise as possible. Even if it's the occasional girly scream, or random slur which no-one understands.

If we can get, say, 10-15 people in that particular area making noise in unity, then we'll sound decent and people will be more willing to get involved who are standing on the sides, or in the main stands. The main reason that I first fell in love with the old Enfield FC is because of how decent the atmosphere was behind the goals.

It should also be mandatory in that area to go aboslutely mental whenever we score a goal - ie, jump up and down, maybe do a roly poly etc. Unless of course we're already 4-0 down or something. Then that would just be silly.

Anyone else with me?

Hello again everyone :480: Have to say that its a pleasure to be able to park easily and then watch my team in a modern well run stadium of our own..Congatutalions to all who made this happen and who continue to work hard to maintain it...Where i do disagree with the comments above is in regard to the tannoy being too quite!!! Myself and those around me invariably find the speakers far too loud and the type of music played leaves a lot to be desired.lol...I can only discribe it kindly as a radio1 style racket..Considering most of our fans are 30+.a more mellow variety of songs (plus playing a few that people have actually heard of would be most welcome).Us behind the goal find it a pleasure when the game starts. mainly because the speakers stop pumping out noise then.

My vote for song for The Town to run out to is the theme from Rocky. The old club used to run out to at Southbury Road and it was brilliant. Why not bring it back for the Ryman Premier 13/14??????
