epicrebel
Just a few points 1) I can NOT see how the talk about get rid of Steve is helping the club or team for that matter. 2) 3 years ago we scrapped into the play offs with a late run who says we can't do that again ( and before you say it don't look like we will we didn't then ever ). 3) One of the big moans last year was our bookings record and Steve can't sort that out. The play-off game last year against Beaconsfield was our 51st game, yesterdays was our 50th this season and we're 30 bookings less than last year. 4) Some might say the players haven't got the bottle of last year, but 7 of the players involved yesterday played in the game against St Neots ( away ). And could ( with the players signed on ) play 9 of them this year. 5) What's saying 1 of the teams in the play-off places now will not bottle it and not pick up any more points. It helped us 3 years ago why not this year. 6) The players ( management ) looked well down after the game yesterday and need US to get behind them, so see how the season end and THEN IF you want to have a moan then ha-ho. HorshamRebel
Well said Mark. When I was among the players after the final whistle, getting shots of them before they left the field I could see and hear exactly how down they were and that they definitely have the passion and will to do their best and win for Slough. A loss hits them hard especially when goals come from mistakes, be that a defender missing a tackle that lets a goal in, or a striker that misses a chance to score. Even if we don't make the play-offs, which I still think we can, we have to get behind the team and promote that positivity into them. If it were at an office and everyone around certain people were openly moaning about how they were performing, I bet you wouldn't like that it was being done, I know I wouldn't. Let's get behind the team, both on and off the pitch, and get to those play-offs TOGETHER Personal Gary

Irishadrian
Mark Im not sure what you are really meaning to say I agree that there should be no discussion of Batemans position but only because he asked for one more chance to succeed after the debacle at the end of last season and this is it If he fails again he should keep his word and go. I dont know where you get the idea that there was any kind of last minute surge in the 09/10 season The opposite is correct Our last six games were W2D2L2 and on the final day of the season it was SYCOB who ensured our place in the play-offs when they held Sutton Coldfield to a draw. The players you mention in the away game at ST.Neots were also part of the disasterous run in which started with the very next game at home to NGU so Im not clear what point you are trying to make I agree that our disciplinary record has improved but we had almost the worst record in non-league so thats hardly a surprise The truth is that we are once again relying on others to slip up when we should be comfortable by now I think the people who constantly say that there should be no criticism of poor performances and poor tactics are not helping Those who constantly underperform should not believe that thats OK because nothing effective will be said or done I still hope that we will make the play-offs but what was a certainty a few weeks ago is now just a hope and I find that very frustrating. Roystonjez
My view looking in, is that you really do not have much to worry about. Unfortunately the FA Cup run seems to have taken it's toll but your last two defeats are against teams in the play-offs away from home. Two individual mistakes probably down to tiredness were your undoing yesterday and you seemed to have lost the legs and perhaps a little bit of fight towards the end. But you are a good side and for me your match against Biggleswade is crucial, they are having a wobble and its an opportunity to cash in. Talking to your manager yesterday, he was absolutely devastated and showed how much he cares. Get behind your team as the glory days will come. PremiershipJoyRider
It's strange that some of our best pep talks are coming from a Royston fan. It was nice to meet you yesterday Jez and good luck to your team for the rest of the season - I just hope we don't knock each other out of the play offs !!!!!!! Rebel Kay
Mark and Gary are right. Leave the moaning and speculation for the end of the season and get behind the lads until then. I know its hard when things aren't going our way, but we need to remain supportive, positive and remember that awful season a few years ago when losing 2 - 0 was a good game. Throughout that we were there for the lads as I am sure the Woodford fans are this year.

3spirit
Probably the two most sensible posts we've had on here in quite a while, will said both of you. No, I don't think that is sensible at all. All you're doing is burying your heads in the sand like ostrich's! I find that you are not facing up to the sad facts, that given our resources we should be doing far better than we are, currently. End of. That's got absolutely nothing to do with supporting the team. We all support the team at the matches. On this website,it's about debate and discussion. We would still have Derek Sweetman or Mark West or Mark Betts etc,etc if we never changed anything and would be languishing in park football by now. Wake up and smell the roses please. Sue
Debate and discussion is fine but be honest sometimes there are some on here that go way over the top and their comments are not helpful at all. Remember these guys all work full time and are having to play three times a week, not only is it tiring but it must also affect their home lifes as well so be it must be taking its toll a bit. 3spirit
Debate and discussion is fine but be honest sometimes there are some on here that go way over the top and their comments are not helpful at all. Remember these guys all work full time and are having to play three times a week, not only is it tiring but it must also affect their home lifes as well so be it must be taking its toll a bit. You make a fair point,Sue and of course, I can sympathise with the fixture backlog and how tiring it must be having a full-time job and playing football plus the flack that some of them are getting on this forum but that makes the onus even more on the manager. The facts are we have a large squad,a reserve team and an under- I8 team and yet rather than rest the odd player or two,SB chooses to keep playing his favoured players, when some are clearly out of steam and the odd one or two are carrying injuries and not use his subs wisely is bizarre. Also for whatever reason, many are not doing the business on the football field or justice to the manager, the fans and the club as a whole, when they are being paid well for their services and talent . No team has the God-given right to win anything and as we all know, life is a struggle and never straight-forward but if players can't take the heat they should get out of the kitchen. The same goes for the management. Too many on this thread, are involved and very close with the club, that they are afraid to be honest and so every controversial topic they spout the same tired rhetoric about being positive. Slough sit in 8th place. For me, with many fans feeling the same, is that Slough was supposed to be going for 1st place. The play offs, only being the ' get out of jail ' card if we desperately needed it. Nothing has been decided yet. There's no denying, however, that in the league, this has been Steve Bateman's worst season in charge. The FA Cup run was a huge bonus and a credit to the management and the team and gave the profile of the club,a big boost but that wasn't the main target for this season.Getting out of this league was and at the moment,we're failing on that front. NBH leaving was a huge blow.Truth be told we should have replaced him by getting someone in from outside the club, who matched his attributes.Hindsight, of course, is a wonderful thing to quote but this factor has been the catalyst to Slough's current demise. As I've said before Steve Bateman is a likeable manager and very experienced for the current level Slough play at.He attracts well known faces with non-league pedigree and so far,his record on paper is a decent one. It does seem, though, that he is unable to get a championship winning team together, for whatever reason. So that is why people are beginning to question him and his methods and the current crop of players, who have failed him in the league, this season. Major decisions by those in charge will have to be made, whether Steve stays or goes but some of the current crop of players want to take a good look at themselves,as to whether they've given enough to keep their gaffer in the job. None of us expect miracles,we just want good, honest workman like performances and a united team.We are not getting this. Steve, too, has to weigh up whether he has the know how to achieve, what most of the fans want and that is promotion.
Sue
Hmmmmmmmm not sure about one comment 3spirit, not a lot of people close to management post on here to be honest. I dont post anything critical one, because I dont know enough football t, and two because I dont believe it helps. I'm certainly not afraid trust me, but I know you were not aiming that personally at me.
