Harrow Borough vs Enfield Town

Yesterday was a total embarrassment.

We should all know the simple rules regarding kit and what is/is not allowed. If a player wears cycling shorts they must be the same colour as the team shorts, how as a club we fail in this is poor and we got punished on the 1st goal because of this as Hunt had to go off to remove his cycling shorts. Yes some may say the ref was being a bit 'anal' but rules are rules and for some reason our management team then decide to blame every man and his dog for OUR balls up!! If this wasn't bad enough in the 2nd half Sturgess was penalised for the same offence....had we not bloody learnt from what happened in the 1st half??!!

Once we had the 5 minute delay why a certain member of the 'coaching' staff used every piece of the queens english to make him look like a man the lads reacted positively and could have had 3 or 4 in the 1st half, gunz with an easy header 2 yards out headed over, J O'B should have anticipated the defender missing when 3 yards out & Tyler did excellently to get infront of his man when one on one but then took an age to get his shot away.

Once Lee Allen went off in the 2nd half that protection on the back four was gone no one closed the midfield down to prevent the balls over the top for their pacey forwards to get on the end of. Not quite sure what Will Sturgess was brought on for as apart from wearing the wrong coloured cycling shorts (lesson not learned from 1st half) he offered nothing apart from lazy tackles which typified our game and got himself sent off.

What is frustrating from a supporter watching yesterdays game is:

  • Do the club/management team/players actual know the rule book or do they think they are a rule to their own?
  • The ref was quite right to do what he did and as a result we got punished
  • Its about time we got rid of the mouthy little $h!t on the touchline, all he does is let the club, Steve, players, fans down and what does he offer?? with the exception of his wonderful array of vocabulary!!
  • Despite being pulled up in the 1st half Sturgess for some reason though he could get away with it. Rather than at half time change them he goes out and then throws a big strop along with one or two players because we think what exactly?? That we hadn't learnt from before. I heard a comment from the bench "Throw the ball out of the ground then it will give him time to change them if the ref wants to be a ...." Absolutely pathetic, lets take the easy way out and blame the ref cos of our inability to follow SIMPLE rules.
  • Steve is a good manager but he is let down by others. The only criticism I have of him is his body language. When we went 3-1 down he sat on the dug out with arms folded for a few minutes admitting defeat despite 15-20 mins left. Time & time again I see opposition managers constantly on there feet winning or losing encouraging their team. Like I said this is my only criticism of him.
  • Yes the ref did make some strange decisions but on the whole he had a fairly decent game, my only groan would be failing to book their 8 for 2 handed push on Lee Allen.
  • What exactly to the dugout hope to achieve by harassing the officials? Do they think they can make them vulnerable and influence their decision the more they moan about it? If anything you are likely to have more 50/50's go against you

Lets hope as a club we have learned lessons from yesterday, we are not safe yet and we have a good opportunity against teams below us, if they beat us we will be having squeaky bum time on the last game of the season.....and for the record if any players intend to wear tape with their socks on Saturday, that has to be the same colour too!!!!

Let's not beat about the bush regarding yesterday's 'performance'. Harrow were below us in the table and you could see why. However, they out fought us, out ran us, battled harder than we did, played with more passion and looked like they wanted to get the three points more than us. We now have the worst defensive record in the league and you can see why. Pace did us again.

How many more times has a member of the management team got to be sent off before something is done about it? He was not sent off because of his passion for the game. It seems as though he feels there is always a need to shout and swear at officials whenever he sees fit. What kind of message does that send out to players, officials, supporters and the opposition. He is giving 'our' club a bad name. A poor show indeed.

I believe we will stay up and we have to thank McGleish for that, but things must change for the better for next season. We are being found out.

Partly agree with that paragraph as Scott did inspire the team at a time when it was needed. However Liam Hopes goals have been even more impressive, Mcgleish did'nt get 8 in 5 and a bit of me thinks that maybe Wealdstone went for the wrong ETFC striker lol.

Another key moment was When Lee White moved to Centre Half and Jay Sivva into left back, as well as Adam Wallaces hard graft and assists, if we stay up (which we will, subject to confirmation and we will know better after this weeks run of mid week fixtures) It would have been a total team effort, as it always should be.

So Jason is wrong for shouting and screaming and Steve is wrong for not shouting and screaming.

It's a simple game then. :D

What about the Assistant Referee who checks the shors before the game and when substitutes enter the field of play? On both occassions, he must have deemed that it was ok? I think this is what the management and players were shouting about?

If a player is allowed to enter the field of play by the assistant, they shouldnt be blamed for the referee then 'moving the goalposts'.

I am led to believe that Assistant Referees don't check for "undershorts" anymore as it was deemed an invasion of privacy asking players to lift their shorts!

Clubs and players are now warned that if the referee notices incorrect kit then they will be asked to go and change. Any sliding tackle that makes the shorts rise is going to make it obvious.

Clubs that have kits in traditional colours really have no excuse as whites, blacks, blues etc are readily available. I'm interested to know how Dulwich manage to get Chocolate and pink ones though!

But all this still dosen't change the fact that it isn't a new regulation and people should be aware of it.

What ?

I was not there yesterday so may be making an assumption regarding "pants"

I hope it was not coloured undergarment like cyclying shorts being the wrong colour !!

This is standard FA stuff and surely everyone in the club knows that undergarment must be the same colour as the shorts.

This is standard Sunday Pub League stuff.

Happened at Hampton.

Players, Management, Kit man...get it sorted for christ's sake.

Stupid.

The kit man is only responsible for the shirts, shorts, socks and warm up tops.Anything the players wear underneath is purely their own responsibility.

But we dont usually play with white shorts. So when did the players know that they would be playing with third choice shorts?

We don't usually play in black shorts either! If the undershorts were Blue i could understand your point.

Like i said we don't USUALLY play in black shorts. Our two kits are White, BLUE White and Yellow/Red, Red and Yellow/Red Hooped socks. Unfortunately this means that you sometimes have to mix and match. White shorts vs Kingstonian with that shirt (above) as a recent example.
