v Northwood

Recommended Posts

Go back to 3-5-2 starting from Saturday and do what we were so good at last season and the early part of this season! Since reverting to 4-4-2 we have dropped stupid points, we are too open in this formation... I get needing goals to get points but we also have to keep them out at the bloody other end!

Its 10 games since we've kept a clean sheet, and I think that is much of what's gone wrong.

Our best defensive line up (remember Gosport, Margate and Mansfield) was Fraser, Rhone, Brown, NBH, and Woozely. Injuries, moves, formation and selection mean that only one or 2 of our best defensive line up have been playing.

Personally, put Dave Deeney in the middle of Brown and Woozley on Saturday. Then, play Fraser right wing back, Murphy/Rhone left wing back, put Martin & Anthony in the middle of midfield and play Parsons in a free role behind 2 from Burnell, Smith & O'Toole!

Any chance of getting Sonner back? By Christ we need his passion and energy!

Total farce tonight, If Bateman thinks this is a league winning side he is even more of a fool than ever.

Bateman is turning Slough Town FC into the laughing stock of this league.

Also the only two who should be picking up a wage packet should be Martin & Logie - everyone else including management should be handing theirs back - will be intresing to see if any do or are they just there for the money?

So devastated after tonight. We had chances to win it but to be fair the Northwood keeper made some good saves, but the chances were there and we did not take them. Not convinced over subbing Smith instead of O'Toole as I thought Ed was looking better. Why is O'Toole so afraid of getting stuck in, he is our form striker but he always stands too far away from goal and the ball never falls to him, especially on set pieces.

Agree Adam Martin was superb once again but unfortunately there was no one else around him to convert the possession Martin created into threats.

Apparently on Monday the players ignored Bateman's half time instructions to get the ball down on the floor and play our own game, and after tonight I'm seeing nothing to convince me that the egos of out squad are doing enough to justify being in the team.

Royston is now just win, NOTHING else will do.

To be honest it is pointless saying an hour after today's game that the next one is massive. This one was massive, and we've thrown away the points again.

We seem to have lost the ability to keep a clean sheet.

Northwood wanted it more than we did. And all they were playing for is pride. That's not meant to be dismissive of them, but they were fighting for every ball and were completely determined. Fighting for a point but playing with pace and a threat on the break and therefore took all three.

That was one of the more winnable games in our run in. Having to go to Royston, Rugby, Biggleswade and Godalming needing to pick up wins is a huge ask.

Tonight as others have mentioned Adam Martin was superb.

So, so frustrating tonight, the amount of rushed clearances and passes tonight that found a Northwood player was shocking and it happened time-and-time again. That said I don't think we deserved to lose the game.

If I was Bates i'd be on the phone to Sweeney and Sinclair tomorrow trying to get them to play some part this season as I think those two in particular could play a huge part and would certainally improve the squad and our options. I'd also play Kyle in central midfield, where he has much more influence on the game and look to get get Sean Fraser back in the side.

In my opinion we also have not replaced NBH as well - he was a huge loss in both boxes.

This season is far, far from over and we must remember if we can get our act together we are capable of beating anyone on our day in this league. COYR

Agree with you there Chris too. We've failed to replace NBH properly which is a huge mistake.

I think the question is - do we write of the rest of this season now and start planning for next year or do we hope for a miracle and splash more cash now bringing more players in.

I don't think we can bring any more players in, I think there was a 31 March deadline.

As poor as the last two games have been, this is no time to be throwing in the towel. Five points off fifth place with two games in hand, and we play that team next. Lose on Saturday and I might well agree with you!

I don't want to jump on the band wagon and slag the team or the management tonight.

Thought Slough were desperately unlucky and didn't get the rub of the green. You couldn't fault the commitment and urgency that the players showed in the 2nd half.Unlike Monday.

However, the goals we conceded were self-inflicted and suicidal. Fancy leaving only one player back for the 2nd goal, when Northwood were trying to catch us on the break.

Didn't think Ryan O'Toole had his best game tonight and often tried to beat players too often, when he had got past them once. Ed Smith should have stayed on IMO [and I forgive him for nearly hitting me with the water bottle,he booted over the fence when he came off in anger ! ha ha ha !].

Thought Joe Chandiram worked hard tonight and deserved to stay on. MOTM for me was Adam Martin. Also thought Steve Perkins, Adam Logie and Dave Woozley dug in and showed some much needed backbone, when we needed it in the 2nd half.

Unfortunately,Slough self imploded and let a distinctly average Northwood side rob them of the points.Felt sorry for Steve Bateman and Fred Cummings tonight. You can't legislate for player's unwise actions,as with Northwood's easily obtained goals.

Oh well, another season in this division isn't the end of the world.......I can feel a chorus of 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' coming on ! ! !
