v Burnham

Makes you wonder how good in depth our squad really is?

It's not the first time this season that we have not been able to fill the bench with 5 players or 5 fit players and now we have talk about filling the bench with players who have hardly kicked a ball this season (except Sonner).

We also have Brownie missing the Biggleswade and Aylesbury matches through suspension, Adam Martin and Danny Burnell are one booking away from a 2 match ban, Ed Smith 2 bookings away from a ban and Ashley Deeney seemingly out with a pulled hamstring.

The squad is as good as any other side in this Central division,if not better ! Obviously, being an Easter weekend, some players will be unavailable but surely given the number of back up players we have,we should easily be able to have 5 fit subs. Most managers in this division would be glad of the resources Slough have and yet our manager seems unsure how to use substitutes to change the game.

Given the conditions on Monday,it didn't take a rocket scientist to see that we had no one to challenge the Burnham defenders or their big goalkeeper,Michael Watkins in the air during open play and even when we did have corners/crosses,no one ruffled the feathers of the keeper.

I thought given the size of Adam Logie, we could have put him up front for the last 5-10 mins, with Burnell and O'Toole and played a 3-3-1-3 with Ed Smith as the link man behind the front three and in front of our midfield,in an effort to get an equaliser. It's not unheard of to push a big centre-half up front when needed [even Steve Bateman has done this before !],so given our lack of tall defenders,I thought Logie would have been a good option. But NO, Slough just fizzled out to nothing, and as usual, Bateman's lack of trying anything remotely different led to the non-effective performance, we witness often in his faltering teams.

I have to agree with you Reading.....assuming that we are not going to utilise the list of players we signed on last week we only really have the following

GK

Jacko, Warro

Def

Murphy Woozley Perkins Brown Rhone Deeney Fraser

Mid

Martin Logie Burgess Deeney Parsons Chandirham Anthony

Att

O'Toole Burnell Smith

Thats only 19 players and currently Warro Deeney Brown and Rhone are struggling with injury so no wonder we cannot fill a bench all the time

If we are not going to use those players we signed last week-what was the point of signing them and bragging to the local papers again?

Those players, Sonner excepted, are really in name only and unless we get the bubonic plague I would imagine will not be used.

Mark44, I think you've missed Sam Bateman who's a better player than his father gives him credit. Also useful young goalkeeper James Hawtree.

I haven't seen what's in the reserves or youth team but thought Kwasi Marfu looked like he could and would come on leaps and bounds,if he was allowed to train with the 1st team and make the odd sub appearance.

Where's the reward for playing well in the reserves?

Sometimes a hungry young player is ideal for the subs bench and fleeting appearances, for their willingness to work hard and chase lost causes,as this is better than some 1st team/squad player who thinks he's too good for it.[or is injured] !

Maybe Bateman needs to be more selective in what he says to the press as most of his recent comments have back fired on him, players coming back and then having spaces on the bench, mind games with Burnham and losing both on the pitch and in the papers to Martin Stone, and the utter folly of still claiming to be able of winning the league.

Even with any reduction in gate money due to poor attendances, we picked up more in the FA Cup run than most teams spend on wages in a year, so we are still up there as one of the top spenders in this leauge and with the alleged squad quality & size with all these players just a phone call away we should have the league title in our grasp.

However the Bateman loyal are just blaming the bad weather and poor pitchs - wake up! it was not just Slough who had bad weather and both teams have to play on the same poor pitchs - oh I forgot it was the FA Cup that is to blame for Batemans inability to motivate his team, make tactical substitutions, and read the weather to know that you dont play the long ball game in the wind!

I am hoping that we can win 7 of our remaining 10 games to have a chance of getting into the playoffs and a chance to get out of this pony league, that is the target now.

how deluded are you lot. You have let yourselves down, biggest budget and biggest excuses when beaten. Burnham are top of the league on merit. The hardest working side in the division. Slough are just not good enough to go up i am afraid. They are a one dimensional side who have one way to play and that is it. The team needs some pace in there and that is why you struggle. you can Drop off beacause your forwards are not tall or quick. Your defenders are too slow so once players get at them they struggle, and dropping brownie is a clanger as he is your leader.

The bigger problem for me is the drseeing room harmony (NOT), having players tweeting how bad every one else in the team is must have done wonders for the team spirit. You win as a team and lose as a team. But apparently it is the fault of the players who have been there before this season.

Your team is full of mercineries who will move for a pound more. No SLOUGH players who want to wear the shirt.

And as for the reserves and youth team players, when have they ever been given a chance???? It is not a football club, it is a first team

Your squad is not even the biggest as you have stated, bit strange for me, all that money and you cannot get enough players.

And as for the pony league it looks like you will be gracing it again next year......................................

You are all gonna get what you deserve this season im sorry to say.

You've made some very valid points. On paper,Slough have the better players except for one or two, maybe three in the Burnham ranks. Given that I've only seen Burnham twice this year, both games against Slough,it's hard to judge how good Burnham are.

We beat you fairly comfortably at home,by playing some sublime football but the Easter game you had the edge and worked better as a team. This certainly is, currently,a big failing with our side. Burnham were hardly brilliant.

However,Burnham haven't won anything yet and Rugby and Godalming may have a big say in who will be champions. The play-offs are a lottery,so you may still be pipped to the post.

Enjoy your glory,it will only be short-lived.

Interesting how someone made the effort to create an account just to give it to the Slough fans.

Although, some of what he / she says, has some truth in, just a shame the person couldnt use their real alias to say these things, rather than hiding behind a new nickname (one with the nickname that is a clear dig at Slough).

Reading posts / tweets from other clubs, I genuinely didnt realise how many opposing teams / players / fans dislike Slough :S

Personally, I have no malice towards Burnham, hope they go up (if they don't, I won't be rubbing it in their fans message boards ..... wait a minute, do they have one or just use ours :)
