v Burnham

Recommended Posts

A poor game to watch, with neither side impressing. Not a case of 2 good sides cancelling each other out as our passing was poor, our crossing was equally poor.

Once we went behind there was only ever going to be one result. Combine that with a ref who liked making speaches and I wish I'd stayed at home and watched some paint freeze.

Agree with that Cookham.

How Burnham can come out of nothing and build a (possibly) title-winning side on seeming next-to-no budget, and we can't despite our (supposedly) superior resourced and money from the FA Cup run, is a mystery!

(It's also not totally outside the realm of possibility that SYCOB could go up via the play-offs! (Potentially) being in in a lower league than Burnham and SYCOB should be a real eye-opener

I put it down to evolution Nathan, Martin Stone has evolved his playing style in an attempt to achieve success and at the moment it's working, I do not believe we have evolved at all if I'm honest, it's the same mistakes and lacklustre performances as previous seasons!

I know the above is harsh but I want us to get out of this division and then hold our own in the division above, at the moment I cannot see anything but another season in this division I'm afraid!

Irishadrian and Nathan

with the much improved budget????????? and Burnham on NO budget?????????????

How do you know this , I think with the lower crowds it might be even smaller than last year.

The only people that would know this is the 2 Steve's

This is no disrespect to Burnham but look at our squad compared to theirs, I think it's a no brainer to be perfectly honest!

Anyway, we move on to Northwood and hopefully 3 points and the journey to the end of the season, where I hope I'm proved wrong.

epicrebel Some of the players arent discreet When David Deeney joined us his first mention on the social media was of the great money Our team has a number of players who have whored themselves around non league football for years never loyal to any club for long clearly chasing the money imo they just pull on a shirt not THE shirt.

Forget the budget as an excuse, the opportunity for the players we have was presented time and time again for a promotion push and they and also the management failed to grasp it.For a bunch of players that almost beat Mansfield ( probably the WINNERS OF THE 5TH LEAGUE ) to then succumb to some of the teams that we did is in my opinion scandalous. One of Bateman's early failings was to keep changing the team week in week out, and yet again I see talking up the team in the press failed miserably, I would love to hear his prematch gee up to the players-cos it don't work!

I agree with Nathant to see Burnham and SYCOB in a higher league than Slough would be gauling to say the least.

People laughed when I told them via on here that we were not good enough to go up, now they are begging to see the light.

We are good enough! I still maintain its the best squad in the league. That's the galling part.

We may have the best squad Marcus but that doesn't necessarily mean the best starting 11, there is something fundamentally missing from this squad, I'm sure we all have our different opinions to what that may be. In my opinion, we missed our chance at winning the league last season AND in the Summer we did not replace Paul Coyne! That's where it all started going wrong!

I may have missed something in the papers or something, but we also seem to be dropping Alex Brown for no apparent reason: just as we did last season when things started to go wrong!

We could have done with his physical presence today!

Agreed Nathan, probably go and win Player of the Season again despite not being in the team when needed!

I may be unpopular for saying this, and I hate to sound like hotspur, but today showed why I don't think we'll go up this season; we aren't good enough.

We could still be playing now and we wouldn't have scored, as we spent almost the entire game hoofing the ball upto Danny Burnell, who was up against 2 big central defenders. We were crying out for some pace down the wing and for somebody who can beat defenders and then cut the ball back. But today, all we did was hoof. This played right into Burnham's hands!

Burnham are a very Route 1 side who on the day weren't that good, but it was Burnham who produced the bit of quality needed to win games like these. It certainly wasn't coming from us I'm afraid to say.

I'm saying this because I feel that we're making the same mistakes that have cost us the last 3 years : we're dropping too many points because we're far too clueless, far to often.

Nathan,

Burnham are top of the division and now 16 games unbeaten and there wasn't a fag paper between us only a scrambled goal that crept in not a bit of quality as you put it.

So on that evidence are you saying Burnham aren't good enough to win the league?

I think we need to get real. We played the form team of the division who are not top by accident and we matched them all the way and a draw would have been a fairer result.

Are we not 19 points behind Burnham RR? Also, in danger of not even making the play offs?

It's not a matter of getting real, we should be closer than we are with the squad we have. The FA Cup run is now a convenient excuse!

ReadingRebel, what you say if fair enough, but only if you take today on it's own and don't look at the wider picture.

Over 2 games, Burnham certainly did not look like a side who should be anywhere near the top. We completely dominated them on Boxing Day, and deservedly beat them 2-0. Today was all route 1, only this time we didn't have the quality/shape/desire to break them down.

I refer you to my previous point about Burnham being able to do all this on a limited budget, whereas we cannot.

One final point - that "scrambled goal" may not have been quality, but it certainly had more quality than anything we produced today!

CR,

The FA cup run and weather interuptions are not convenient excuses they are FACTS and most teams, no matter how big a squad would struggle to win so many high pressure games in such a short space of time.

All teams were affected by the weather, but some teams coped better than others, or had better results beforehand.

Look at Godalming Town, who have played just 2 games more than us, but are 11 points ahead. Rugby have played only 3 times more, but are 16 points ahead. Neither look like they drop silly points to teams they should be beating, on a regular basis!

Nathan,

The league table doesn't lie, Burnham are top on merit.

We out played them in the first game and lost to a scrambled goal today when the elements played a major part. In my book that probably makes us the better team over the two games.

I think we need to forget about Burnham being on a limited budget.

I've heard that they are being bank-rolled by Martin Stones wealthy Wife and the reason why they have signed players of premier division quality.

Have to agree Nathan. If Burnham gain promotion and we do not this season it'll be a right kick in the teeth and the question will have to be asked and answered as to how this has happened with the amount of money that has been pumped into the playing squad over the past 4 seasons. I have to take my hat off to Martin Stone I really really do!

How much money has been pumped into the playing squad over the past 4 seasons?

As I've said Martin Stone has been bank-rolled by his wealthy Wife so I wouldn't take my hat off to him too quickly CR.
