Bury Town vs Enfield Town

Was this not a classic... "game of 2 halves" ?

First Half.

Town took the game to Bury.

Attacked repeatedly.

Pushed forward at every opportunity.

Liam ( confidence high following 2 on Wednesday ) scored a very good goal.

Town should have scored 2 or even 3 goals...should have being the clue.

Second half.

First 10 mins Town were still in the dressing room.........just not in the game.

Credit the Bury Manager who changed the shape of his team and filled the midfield, whilst pushing forward on the break down both wings.

Town Sat back and let Bury dominate.

Goal and we were rocking.

Every Bury pass seemed to find a player in blue.

Over the next 35 ( or more ) mins fairly even and Town had at least 2 glorious chances to score, but missed the target.

Some strange substitutions made by SN.

- Hope off, when we needed a goal - was he injured ? Is he not our leading goal scorer ?

- Hunt off, when he was making some good moves and probing the Bury defence - replaced with Johnston - WHY ?

Sorry, but Johnston has done nothing all season and was totally ineffective today.

Into added on time 3rd / 4th min and Bury score. A real scramble over the line.

Ref plays 6 or 7 added mins - how, why, where from ?? who knows ?

Summary,

Playing 8th in the League and on first half performance - who would know - Town did well. Should have had a 2 goal lead.

Second half - Bury Manager changed it around, which proved the key to unlock Town.

Sorry, but in my opinion, Town just don't have a plan B once plan A fails.

Oh well,

Onward and upwards to Monday - Leiston will be a tough nut to crack !!!!!

OT,,,, is this the same Hunt who last weekend v Concord was "a luxury we cannot afford"?

CO - Yep, 100% correct.

Above comment related to Concord game where I thought Hunt was totally out of it - a Luxury player in those circumstances.

No one can denigh his ability but on a poor pitch and in that game, he did not get involved ( in my opinion )

Second half v Kingstonian he ran the show.

Different surface and he had lots more room to play.

Yesterday, second half he tried to do the same with a good degree of success.

I could not understand why he was replaced by Johnson.

In my opinion J O'B would have been a better option, if a change was needed for some reason ( tactical or injury or tired etc )

Happy ?

Do we have to have "one opinion" of a player for the season or can it change depending on the game / performance ?

Cause I'm happy as we've picked up 3 pts (close to 4) on the road at three tough games and are now nearly safe from the dreaded R word... I'll emphasis the word NEARLY... its not all over yet.

You are entitled to your opinion as thats what its all about. + you've been to more ganes than me of late. .. I just thought slating Hunty one week then praising him the next may be a bit much.

..big games coming up at Hampton (not got much to play for) & Harrow (who are still not out of trouble) after the Easter 'local derby' v Leiston on Monday.

Leiston have just signed Attacking Midfielder Kabir Jeetoo from Needham Market...started season at Ilford and is a decent young promising player by all accounts... he is local to Enfield (beleive he lives in Edmonton area) so could be worth a look at???

Wasn't at the game but it seems silly to take a guy off who's scored 3 in the last 2 games. Also from what I've heard Jonathan Hunt has been playing really well of late. The 2 subs are players who haven't contributed anything this season. Perhaps this shows the lack of quality depth in the squad.

Bit surprised at some of the criticism of the boys and SN's decisions yesterday - yes, ultimately it's all about results and I agree we're still lacking that Plan B but I thought we were very unlucky not to get something out of the game yesterday.

At 1-1 that was a good point but I'd have still considered us unlucky not to win - to lose it was gutting and you could see that the players really felt it. Time to pick yourselves up lads and get those 3 points tomorrow. With 4 games in a week I thought Steve was right to make some changes in the second half - Liam was excellent in the first half and his goal was excellent but I still have a feeling there's a lot more to come from David Laird now that Scott's gone. Likewise, I still think Neil Johnston's a good prospect for the future but he's going to need game time to get his form back.

Some excellent battling performances yesterday - particularly Kirby, White, Allen and Henry. The big decisions in the game went against us - not sure if they were all wrong but the ref definitely had too much of an influence on the outcome of that game.

Bury's No 7 was very fortunate not to be sent off in the first half - a clear second bookable offence, one where the ref failed to apply the rules. The fact that he'd already been booked should have no bearing on his decision but it clearly did. Penalty incident in the second half that Steph alluded to - seen them given, Liam certainly got a kick from behind. Offside decision against David Laird when clean through - think the linesman got that wrong. Was the ball over the line for the winner? I was far too far away to tell but there was never much doubt that the ref was going to give it - also, how far into injury time was that?

Thought Bury looked a good side though - John Sands and Craig Parker were a constant threat and I'd like to see them make the play-offs. Nice club, they deserve to do well.

Not sure I share the confidence of others yet about us being safe yet. If the teams below us win their games in hand there's only Carshalton, Lewes and Wingate & Finchley that would be below us. Probably not likely that they'll all win all those games in hand but this is the time of the year when teams at the bottom start winning - we need to pick up some points in the next few games if we're not to get pulled into that relegation nightmare.

Time to put Saturday behind us and concentration is key.

OT-I think the point I'm always trying to make and agree with Cold Ends views as well, is that how can YOU and other supporters expect players to play with all their will, passion and heart when they are receiving bellowing criticisms from their own fans on a mis placed pass or being robbed of possession?? These occurances happen in a game, players have off days etc etc things which I don't or should'nt have to spell out and then suddenly they perform well the ball rolls in their favour and they are flavour of the month, that attitude is more inconsistent than any players performances.

Let's have a reality check:

Aim's and expectations for this season?

1/To consolidate our Ryman Prem Status

2/To increase attendences

3/To increase the profile of the club

4/To have a Cup Run

5/To watch decent matches in our borough on our Stadium Pitch

I think we have achieved 4 out of 5 of the above, i've enjoyed every game i've watched this season, even Concord Away(0-3) because every game has been better than any match in the RDN1 league, the standards are better, the away stadiums are better and the atmosphere of having away supporters is great.

I'd say the requirements for the reminder of the season and our matches is the players to play for their re-registrations for next season, to prove to Steve they are worth re-signing. To accumulate as many points as possible. I'll predict we will win another 2-3 games before the end of the season hitting the managers 14 wins target. I predict our team will beat Leiston today, got a feeling their is a big performances on it's way i.e home v Hendon/Met Police.

As for citicising the manager, I don't know where it comes from honestly. Yes he was wobbling at one point when we hit a low in the away game to Carshalton (2-3), However, he did'nt crumble, he stood strong re-galvanised and won the next key home game v Hastings (1-0) which should have been 5-0. He has been the most successful manager in our short history, every season he has achieved new records, whether 1st season-being the first manager to reach the play off final's at RDN1 level, 2nd season-achiving the best runs in the cup comps 3rd season-gaining promotion (and I remember him getting slaughtered after we lost at home to 10 man Harlow 0-3 with 6 games to go 4th season-consolidating Ryman Prem Status, which I believe we will do.

Conclusion-Some of our supporters need to be careful what we are wishing for.

Just My opinion.
