dflman
A freezing cold afternoon - one down after about 30 seconds then 2 down by ten minutes - could have been 3 shortly afterwards - a disjointed team effort with a couple of players who I didn't recognise and were not on the team sheet. Pulled one back then saw TGW and Bodkin subbed ????? Some play acting and time wasting by Canvey and a ref who was so short he missed everything including a forearm jab on TW and several handballs. Justly awarded a penalty which was eventually calmy slotted home but not before another mistake by the ref in only giving a yellow for their number 7 who was clearly threatening him. Then the ball goes down the other end and Craig saves at the feet of a Canvey player only for another penalty to be awared this time to them BUT a great save by CH so a rousing ending to what had been a poor afternoons fare. Please don't do that again on Tuesday !
Gringo
I left 5 mins early, missed all the excitment! I thought subs were odd unless bodkin and tommy were carrying knocks. Ibe wasnt in the game and should have been subbed instead!
SteveB
Pretty much sums it up. Dire game all round but the first 15 minutes we were all over the place. First goal was so quick I missed it as was still behind the stand on my way to the Coffin End. Second was just a thump forward by the keeper which we just left for the forward to fire home, then they hit the bar and it looked like they were going to walk through our back 4 all day long. Our first came after a scramble in the box and Ibe could have equalised just before the break but fired over. The second half was a non-event with neither keeper being forced into a save. Our penalty was nailed on but after seeing 4 players arguing over who was going to take it, Canveys defenders arguing with the ref as a delaying tactic as well as Hands shimmying run up I did not feel confident. 3 minutes in to stoppage time and we get a throw near their corner. Instead of Beales launching it to the box he received the throw and 5 seconds later, Canvey had a player clean through. From the other end it looked a stonewall penalty but Canvey fans have said it wasn't. Holloway's save was excellent. A point probably right but on our day, we could have torn them apart. Cookie
Slow start, asleep for both goals. Played much better after that and got our shape back.Rewarded with a goal for some good football after spreading the ball around well. Second half we wern't that good or threatening and Canvey did most of the running though the defence were much better and didn't allow them much of a sniff at goal. I thought our penalty was a fortunate one from where I was standing.A bit soft I thought but still,it was put away exeedingly well by Hand after having to hang around to take it. Then their penalty awarded almost immediately after by the lino despite the ref being within a yard of the incident and not originally giving anything.Great great save by Holloway pushing the ball out to his left. Glad to be home not just because it was cold but my heart wasn't in too good a condition after that ending. Well done the lads overall for not capitulating after such a bad start and for grinding out a draw which I think was a fair result in the end. They must be kicking themselves though for only coming away with a point but in all honesty after their first 10 minutes both sides looked equal. p.s Hope your face isn't too sore Terry
Cookie
I too couldn't understand taking Bodkin off as he was running the show in midfield. With him still on the pitch and playing as well as he was we might even have taken all 3 points.Who knows! Whitnall wasn't doing much, neither was Ibe. I too thought,if anyone,it would be Ibe to be replaced. Special mention for our two full backs who I thought were very good today apart from a couple stray passes from Dolby. Starkey continues to excel. margateshot
With the wind blowing towards Hartsdown Rd and after pulling a goal back I was confident that we could go on and win the game. Once we got it on the ground first half we so much better. However second half we never got to grips with the wind and were guilty of so many wayward passes. Canvey spent nearly the whole second half time wasting. Agree about Ibe he was never really in it, mainly because he was well marked by a defender who consistantly pulled him down or jumped all over him and had nobody who could put a cross into the area

Coffin Ender
A weird and wonderful afternoon. First ten minutes we looked like we had hangovers, letting in two really simple goals. Canvey were first to everything. However, it got better and we scored and then had some good chances before the break. Really early in the second half I had a feeling Canvey were going to see this out, looking far more solid and organised than other visitors to Hartsdown in recent weeks. Plus when they broke their forwards were direct and effective. However, we got the pen. I was convinced Hand was going to miss as I hate long run-ups for pens but he did the job. Then the final twist in the tale, their pen. One question...if CH had fouled their guy why wasn't he sent off? If one-on-one with the oppo keeper isn't an obvious goalscoring opportunity, what is? Anyway, a great save that could prove so important at the end of the season.

margateshot
The last picture in Dons photos sums up the so called penalty. The Canvey player is down on the ground and Holloway is no where near him, terrible decision.
Chris1
As Coffin Ender says, if it was a pen, why no sending off? And I couldn't see what our pen was given for either: does anyone know? I notice we won the toss and elected to kick into the gale, which I thought was a mistake and contributed to the early goals.

Seen them not given hundreds of times though.
BlueGate Alan
According to Simon Osborne he thinks lino may have giving it for a slight pull back by Dolby as the forward came into the area.Holloway booked for arguing.
margateshot
Blimey, Holloway booked for arguing, after the amount of players Canvey had around the ref when our penalty was given. How long was it that hand had to wait to take it?
