The Mayor Of Simpleton
Some really good comments there by Duck1 and Furtho. One thing that hasn't been mentioned, however, is that some (and I repeat SOME) clubs are firmly against change and opening up to new fans. I can give the old Merthyr Tydfil FC as a prime example (I'm sure that a few Ducks fans will remember their Conference clashes against them..) For years, they were run by a few people who treated fans with disdain and were against any thoughts which threatened their positions at the club. They were happy for fans to turn up, cough up money, watch the game, have a pint after and then go home - however heaven for fend anybody who spoke out of turn and had an idea of how to improve things at the club. New faces and guests were always treated with suspicion. A friend of mine, who was the administrator for Velindre Hospital in South Wales, asked me a few years ago if I could organise a charity match there. We had about 20 celebs lined up, and they refused to talk with us when we contacted them. Two weeks later, they were running out of money and needed everybody's help... Sometimes, people at clubs, care more about their positions there than the welfare of the club as a whole. It's a way of them showing off, if nothing else.
