I disagree. Cup finals should be reward for those who have gained the best marks for the season. Whether this method would land PTG an appointment, I'm not too sure but in my experience, he had always been an excellent official.

Actually the guy who has our cup final was an excellent referee when he took charge of one of our recent games, one of the best I've seen at this level for a while.

If you had to get a Cup Final this season then I would have allocated you the Division 2 Final or the Reserve Challenge Trophy Final, I’m sure you wouldn’t have turned your nose up at either of those

The only reason I would disagree with you on this is that the 4 officials on this game are probably the most consistent this season based on marks and performances. Therefore, I would not say I am fortunate.

 

I do see your point though as other officials who have had good seasons have missed out.

 

I would not have been disappointed had I not got this final as I have already officiated it previously.

 

Just to turn around your statement slightly, if your Club was to reach a final would you say that they deserved it or were fortunate. This is not having a go at you or what you have posted but just to get your opinion if you think it is different if a team reaches a final.

Peter congratulations on your appointment.sometimes people give a ref more marks than they deserve because otherwise you have to write a report so the marks do average out i suppose but are a little false.Regarding reaching a cup final you have to play well and be fortunate.Sometimes it could be the draw you get ,maybe a penalty win or a bad refereeing decision,so to say you have not been fortunate is poppycock lol.Have a good rest on the season and a good one in the final.
