Mighty task ahead

Just in case anyone was under any illusions as to how hard our task will be just to reach the play-offs,

Apart from our next 3 games in March being away to Aylesbury, Rugby and Biggleswade.

At the beginning of April we have:

Burnham Away on Monday

Northwood Away on Wednesday

Royston Away on Saturday

Biggleswade Home on Tuesday

Godalming Home on Saturday

Godalming Away on Tuesday

Not wishing to sound negative I personally think we have a mountain to climb just to reach the play-offs.

We currently have 58 points from 28 games - a rate of points that should get us in the playoffs.

Looking at the run in now that all games have be booked, I would estimate that we will pick up around 26 points from the remaining 14 games.

We now have 14 games in a 39 day period, a game every 2 3/4 days, and this is where I see us starting to drop away from our current 2.07 points per game rate.

Yes it is in our own hands how we respond to such a high intensity of games but also how those teams around us respond.

I would say we have a 65% chance of being in the playoffs, but Batemans' claim in the local press of still seeking to be league champions is an optimistic target.

I was never a fan of double headed league meetings, not often (and I stand to be corrected) teams do the 'double' in these head to heads.

Double edged sword, like RR said, with Rugby on Saturday, could it be a good thing, but then thats another game we need to fit in later in the season.

Bloody mid March and games being called off. This really has been a start / stop season ey!!!

Careful what you wish for, wouldn't surprise me if they try and rearrange this for Thursday.

Now rather than calling for 3G pitches (not proper football) or winter breaks (it has been winter for six months) what we need is two games a week throughout August and September when the weather is half decent so we've built the games up early and greater flexibility on the minor cup competitions.

I agree Martin, that would make more sense to play two games a week early in the season before the cup competitions kick in.

Regarding starting the league earlier, not sure if that is a good idea, I remember watching our first home game of this season when it was sunny but absolutely baking.

I mean, I was dripping and I was just watching the game, even the players had half time on the field. They looked fudged near the end.....

just seen this on bbc site. looks like we don't quite have the most games to play:

Bridgwater Town suffered their 29th postponement of the season when Monday's Southern League Division One South & West game against Sholing was called off.

The club have seen 20 games fall foul of the weather, while nine have had to be rearranged because of cup fixtures.

It means they now have 18 matches to play before 27 April.

Now 14 games in 36 days which equates to 1 game every 2.57 days - even less recovery time.

I can understand why the Aylesbury game was called off, as their pitch is heavy at the best of times and with a river running along the back of the pitch the water table must be close to the level of the pitch, meaning that it is near impossible to drain any water away.

the problem this season last summer was a wet one &further topped up by endless winter rains so pitches were struggling

right from the off and never had the chance to recover . the league started on 18 aug &facup one week later and so tues lge games have no chance incase of replays .so what do you want extra money from ffa cup or lge games where you might not be sucessfull . i know what most non league chairman want .since year dot non league lubs have always had to play catch up if there sucessfull in the fa cup . remember these are part time players who have jobs as well

agree that league and county cup games should be played on thursdays so once your out of the fa cup tuesday,s are then clear for the rest of the season

if its good enough for the europa league then its good enough for this level

To me 3G or 4G now is a no brainer - just look at Maidstone. The pitch is the clubs greatest asset and it needs to be used 7 days a week.

Thursdays for league and berks and crap cup with different squad sounds sensible but the problem is knocking league officials heads together. This wild unpredictable weather is the future; a future many non league clubs won't have unless there's root and branch reform and new ideas accepted on how things need to change.
