3G is the way forward for Non-League football clubs as these days games get called off much easier than back in the day. Its become a bit of a joke this season in my opinion.

Good shout Savage its also a very good option and has to be included in the way forward,we can't stay in these lets gamble with the weather days clubs just can't afford to,unless we play there is no revenue and everything lays around for another week getting rustier and rustier.maitenance of a football club and its surroundings costs clubs a small fortune we need the money just to survive its a good job there are so many willing people who give thier time for nothing otherwise more clubs (will)would dissapear.

Some interesting case studies in this FA brochure - installation costs around £400k plus annual maintenance which I've been told are £30k - £40k depending on usage

I wonder what level of grants might be available to part fund such a project?

It's called debate duncs and the debate was about summer/winter football, not running a football team!

Well, lets hope that loads and loads and loads of people don't all join in Trevor, coz we all know what it'll be called then !!!!

It's an idea to play in the summer Duncs, but flawed for a number of reasons. Look at this year so far - teams would have had pre season disrupted by not only weather but that annual event called Christmas. Then the first two months of the season would have been ruined by the weather we've had - some teams would have only played a few games by Easter! The pitches would get carved up now, then dry and be rutted concrete or dustbowls for four months of the season, plus they'd be so hard that any downpours would result in postponements due to the amount of surface water. As was mentioned before, you also have the issues of more weddings, etc, plus players and staff who play traditional summer sports like cricket and therefore may not be able to play football. Also, what if a player gets signed by a league club from non league? They then potentially start their league career knackered as they've already played for six months? Finally, when does this get implemented? Do you finish one season in May then wait until the following Feb?? The weather won't be like this every year and perhaps clubs will take a bit more care at the end of each season putting their pitches to bed properly so they're in better condition all year round - that would help. The FA could help here with guidance - failing that the Mayor of Simpleton probably knows someone. 3G is the way forward if clubs feel they can make it work - again the FA should help. smaller divisions should be the norm as well - 20 teams tops. More and more clubs will merge or cease to exist as they do now in the next five years so that last issue will probably be resolved pretty easily.

Start end of Feb finish Oct,only non league, nobody who shares with anybody would be allowed only clubs with thier own grounds (or a lease) and VP I hate to break the news to you but all these new grasses can grow all year round lol please.

What about all those people who like playing football in the winter and cricket or golf in the summer?

Big difference nowadays compared to years gone by is that if there is a puddle on a pitch the refs call it off. It never used to be like that. Perhaps in an era of excessive safety concerns we are all just a little too precious.

All these postponements are certainly going to make for an interesting last few compact weeks of the season. Those teams with the biggest squads and with organised management over this period will no doubt be the ones who won the day. IMO if you go into the last 2 weeks of the season without 20 players available your going to struggle.

Great day had @ spelthorne sports today. Despite the score line it was nice to have a game before our cup final this Wednesday. Great hospitality, nice people and a lovely pitch. Our man of the match for Feltham was Triston Thomas, made a penalty save and stopped four 1 on 1's to keep the score line kinda respectable.

Agree games are called off too easily nowdays although obviously Westfields pics from today are examples of no brainers. Would have to say in general pitches would be more dangerous in the summer as there would be no grass and basically concrete dust bowls. What would happen with F.A. Cup entries too? Not completely hammering the idea just points that came to mind.
