EU Porn Ban As Of Tomorrow?

Recommended Posts

Porn does nothing for me, but I believe that if people want it then they have a right to it (so long as it isn't animal or child porn).

The state cannot tell people how to earn their money - if somebody makes a living from porn, and he/she/it is not hurting anybody by doing it, then what is the problem other than narrow mindedness? Not every woman would agree that porn demeans women, so will they be allowed a say in this?

If the EU thinks that it can stop porn, then the EU is badly mistaken. This will only encourage porn to go underground (as with alcohol in the USA during prohibition in the 1930s) and will make it far more difficult for it to be regulated properly. If it can't be regulated, then what is to stop the illegal porn market from growing?

If they vote yes on this, we are well and truly back in the dark ages imo. You cannot just ban something because a few loud mouths say you have to! What if they don't agree with religion - is that to be banned as well? It's a slippery slope - ban something and you'll soon be banning something else.

Of coarse the state can tell people how they can earn their money. Wheel clampers, payday lenders, pimps and porn barons would be at the top of the list of most peoples lists of jobs they would like the state to ban.

IMO Pornography does demean woman, and also the pathetic men that buy it.

Whilst I agree that porn is pathetic, and I agree on banning the professions you mention, it's far better to have them in the open than to put them 'underground'.

Drugs are illegal here, but that doesn't stop them from being sold. If porn goes the same way, then I am fearful.

Gratuitous violence is what I consider to be porn.

I don't care if it's porn or Anna Karenina, Politicians do not have a good track record on deciding what the public can read or look at and need to concentrate particularly at the moment on sorting out the economy by leaving it alone. Yes, stop facking with it and everything else for that matter. Too many politicians imo thinking they know what's best for all of us.

Common Sense prevailed - just!

How would other forum users feel if their wife, partner, daughter, sister etc earned a living by working in the porn industry so dirty old perverts can get their kicks by viewing that sort of rubbish. Sleazy porn barons earn fortunes by exploiting vulnerable girls and woman and IMO that shames society.

Anyone that thinks porn is acceptable but would hate their own loved ones being part of that industry is a hypocrite if they consider it OK to have pornography as long as its not one of their own that are being exploited.

Totally agree with this, Alan.

However, your point about the porn barons - had this rule come into effect it would only have exacerbated the problem with them.

Porn may not be the nicest thing to some, but better to keep it legal and monitor it than to ban it and lead to more exploitation (particularly of children) by forcing it underground.

Disagree, if something "is not nice" and the majority want it banned then a democratically elected government should ban it, and if it goes underground and people get caught then punish them. Its not exactly rocket science.

Do the majority want it banned?
