Full time? Good Lord no. He's the top cricket umpire so spends much of the year out of the country.

He does have others (incl his son George who plays for the club of course) who carry on the work in his regular and extended absences. As a fan I have no idea how much time is spent on the pitch but one would imagine it's more than most!

OMG that Ian Gould, well what a small world, I've played against him when he played in goal for Slough ! He was not only a good 'keeper but 'cos of his agility as a 'keeper he was also a good wicket keeper, so excelling at both sports he decided to choose to go pro in cricket as opposed to playing football. Not sure if he was on any pro books tho?........stunned !

I'll say Good Lord yes, this time! He played 18 times for England in One Day Internationals!!

He had a long career and played many years for Middlesex and Sussex, captaining the latter to win the Nat West Trophy.

(Actually, maybe I misunderstood what you were asking - maybe you meant was he on any pro-books in football....??)

Wiki says he represented Arsenal (doesn't say what level) hence his nickname Gunner.

I suspect that's BS. (Apologies if not!)

Edit: Just seen somewhere else saying he played for Arsenal Youth in the early 70s but stopped growing early so had to move on!

Would that have been the 1870s Rother? ;-)
