Invis, I'd be keen to hear your definition of 'made-up' when regards to Media Studies.

 

I currently do a Media related course at College, (Moving Image) which is based soley around Films, TV & Video Production.

 

I challenge anyone who believes that a course like mine is spent in a Screening Room all day watching films, to spend a Semester emcompassing everything I do and meeting all the deadlines, (which can be four a day) for all 7 subjects I do a week.

 

This is only a BND course too, (equivilant to A-Levels) so a Degree course, (which I'm planning to do) should be a good challenge!! <img src="/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

To get the best from University you need to obey the maxim work hard - play hard. I graduated 4 years ago with a degree in Chemistry which was bloody difficult and a taste for real ale, both of which have stood me in good stead. I'm sure there are easier degrees out there - I shared a house with an arts student who stayed in bed til midday every day, went to the library for a couple of hours then hit the pub - but equally I'm sure that had I taken one then I wouldn't have had ended up in a job I enjoy as much as mine - I work in a lab developing pharmaceutical products.

Before working in my current job, I was in the drinks industry for 20 year, in the 90's my company wne through a spell of brining in these graduates as management trainees, and once they had done a short apprentiship, giving them senior positions.

 

They had a habit of throwing the baby out with the bathwater and giving total disreguard to the fundementals that underpinned the organisation.

 

Then when it all went tits up, they moved on to another position leaving those that they trod over in the first place to pick up the pieces.

i agree with you boroman....far to many spongers coming into industry with their shiny new bullshite degrees and more than a touch of arrogance...

 

the PLC's...large corporations...local authorities...quangos et al are obsessed with f***** degrees that really dont matter a [****!!****] when it comes down to it...

 

these people ruin companies and create more unneccassary unemployment in this country than any one will ever know....(apart from amongst their own ranks who always seem to manage to get to the fire exits first)

 

give me a kid from the sticks with desire...heart and enthusiasm for learning and life and I'll give you back a competent and knowledgeable manager and leader of people....

 

I lost a [****!!****] load of dosh recently as the share price of a once great company plummeted after yet another profits warning...one to many....

 

I told these people years ago to clear out the non industry directors and managers that they'd piled up in the sumptuous head offices...(all with public school backgrounds and degrees in bolloxology of course)...and get industry experts back into the boardroom....

yeah right....I've a good mind to take it over completely and fire the f***** lot of 'em...only problem is...they've probably damaged it beyond hope.....

 

no problem there then...they wont end up in the bankrupcy courts or skint and out of work will they....they just resign and get the f***** job spots from the Guardian...

 

 

there's always another sucker for an old school tie....

 

I f***** hate these people and all the time this country is in their hands we are bolloxed as an industrial force...

 

Blair...he's one of them and you all know it....'cept he's sold his sole to the unions..and dont think that these people are all genetic tories from the home counties....oh no..thats all been dealt with by blair and his gangsters....no...these are all hard line f****n pinkos mate with white socks and a line in hypocricy and greed that leaves me speechless..(and THAT is saying something)...

I also hate wealdstone FC and politicians...council workers...truck drivers....schoolteachers and guidance councellors.... social workers and almost everyone....

Put another way this crowd of toss pots are trained to produce the perception of being enabled to achieve, In reality they achieve zilch and long term destroy where ever they land, for instance? have a look at the specialist management parachuted in to the NHS by Blair, hundreds of targets (they set) achieved, good! no the targets they achieve and the thousand others they miss have sweet nothing to do with improving the health of the client(us)

In practical terms the senior nurse understands what is needed and when and no [***!!***] in between, make the senior nurse the director! behave do, that would mean success at the point of delivery
