Is our Country f&*cked?

Recommended Posts

The trains don't work

The Health Service is usless

Education is in a mess

The Post Office is in a mess

Muggings are rife

Yobbos are out of control

Asylum seekers are coming in by the boat/train/lorry load.

The immediate answer to some of the above always tends to be lack of money, so where is the money, probably being spent by Blair and Blunkett on the people that perticipate in the bottom three on the list.

However is it all money, is it not about people organising things better and doing their bloody job properly.

The unions are rising up again, the famous Fords "bell ringer" will soon be back on his perch, just like the good old days. Railways are badly maintained, but there is probably a maintenance schedule, that a person or persons are not keeping to. Seek them out and fire them!

If the Doctor's weren't all away from their desks doing their private work, we would have Doctors. They are not above the rules, make them accountable.

Fat Cats as well, if you or I get 3% they get 23%, come on Blair bring out some legislation to address this. Law and order, stop talking about getting tough and get tough. Groups of Kids standing outside shops after a certain time at night should be rounded up. If a parent lets a kid under a certain age out without an adult after a certain time at night, the parent should be up in court etc.

What a mess

What a government.

Yes, the government is s***. However, there are also good things about this country. We still have less serious crime than many other countries-we are one of the few countries in the world without an armed police force and long may that continue. Although the National Health service needs money put into it, it is still the envey of many other nations. I don't believe that our education system is falling apart. Again, it needs investment but exam results prove that things aren't all bad.

Although there are many aspects of UK society that are problematic, I do feel we should be talking up the good points and fixing the bad points. All being negative does is to bring everyone down to a level of apathy.

I would not wish to live in any other country in the world (although every other month in the Maldives would be tempting).

I agree. Blair and his cronies are a bunch of tossers! Unfortunately, so are the opposition. Which leads to the post of why I should be PM.

Seriously though, I do think this country is at the start (yes the start) of a bad time for us all. It kind of reminds me of "the winter of discontent" which I am too young to have experienced but have read all about. Strikes all over, people feeling down about everything.

First thing I'd do is sort out the kids. put them in concentration camps or something. little a$$holes. Go watch Battle Royale, they had the right idea

Mr H if the education system is not coming apart at the seams why are there so many unemployed teachers whilst classes of over thirty pupils is the norm

An eduction system that does not seek year on year improvement in performance is eventually to come apart at the seams

when students are more interested in drinking than getting the higher education they should be concentrating on,there is very little hope of the future generations learning from the mistakes of the past.CLOSE ALL STUDENT UNION BARS AND MAKE THEM PAY FULL PRICE LIKE THE REAL WORKERS!!!!

Better still, reduce the amount of indiviudals going to university. I am fed up with graduates coming to my offices with poor degrees thinkingthey are worth £20K pa with no real work experience. The criteria for entry into university should be far more stringent. The value of a degree has been eroded in recent years.

Er don't close student bars cause I use them occasionally. Our one is a real tip and not really cheap though.

In respect of "top up fees". Students studying worthwhile subjects like law and medicene etc should be subsidised by those studying lefty type time wasting subjects like Sociology.

Shock horror! Invis agrees with Happy!

I absolutely agree that the value of a degree has been eroded - albeit with mainly gut feeling and anecdotal evidence, rather than the direct experience that you have, Happy. But both in architecture (my proper job) and archaeology (what I prefer doing) I frequently come across whipper snappers with shiny new degrees but don't know squat. NOT all of them I hasten to add, there are plenty of good young people out there.

The number of people doing "proper" degrees is falling, whether tey be academic or practical subjects like engineering, while those doing sociology, media studies and the like is increasing. This is because unis get more funding for getting more customers - sorry students - through the doors. Then the government has this idea that everyoine should go to uni. Why? It's not appropriate for everyone. This is not the route to equal oppurtunity and a fairer society. We should learn to value all profesions, whether they be brain surgeons, airline pilots, plumbers or postmen.

The other thing that pees me off are the ludicrous joint degrees that are available, in totally unrelated subjects, like sports medicine and English literature. Clearly neither subject can be truly studied to degree level. And as for the poicck and mix Open University "degrees".........

OK so who decides what is a worthwhile and what is a worthless degree? Now that is a tricky one.

It might be a good idea to prohibit entry to university to anyone UNDER the age of 25.

ive seen many people come and go from where i work over the years.. its a fairly aggressive enviroment where all that matters at the end of the day is performance (thats basically making money)..

the ones who have lasted the best are the 5 to 8 'o' level types who were born in the mid to late 60's .. later than that and they were a bit to soft.. the public school/uni types talked a good book but didnt have the bollox to take the risks or were downright dishonest .. i'd still take my city staff from southend rather than cambridge..

how many times do you hear someone asked what their studying,so they say and then when asked what they want to do they don`t know, just dossing about avoiding work.if they aren`t working at uni towards a WORTHWHILE future make the tax dodgers pay their way!!!!

That's because, most of the time they don't want to face the fact that in the end all this could be worth nothing and they end up being a Bus Driver or something! (No offence to any Bus Drivers on here!)

I myself am quite lucky in the fact I know what I am doing now, which course to do at which University and which field(s) of the industry to go into! Albiet the industry I want to go into is f**king hard to get into and even then you need loads of money, contacts and luck!!! <img src="/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I also have a back-up plan for that too, in case I don't get started properly and have to intergrate into another related career.

Having said all this, universities are NOT merely training schools for industry/commerce. There is nothing wrong with academic study, and the pursuit of knowledge for its own sake. This is civilisation, culture, a step out of the slime. Equally there is nothing wrong with practical or vocational study, like engineering or the sciences. All are valid and worthwhile.

I'm arguing however that the courses should be truly academic, not made-up stuff like media studies, sociology, women's studies and so on.

Everyone should have the oppurtunity of higher education, provided they are able and it is appropriate for them. I see no sense in the current dictum that everyone should go to uni regardless. This simply devalues the status of a degree, as has been stated above.

So there.
