Arthur Salisbury
I'm thinking of setting up an Enfield Town fanzine for next season. I've got the go-ahead from the chairman to sell it outside the ground, and TheColdEnd is on board to write something for it. It would be great if any of you have any suggestions, even just what to call it. If you want to write anything for the fanzine (however little, and however tenuous a link to ETFC and non-league football), that would be great. Pretty much nothing will be rejected, and I'll give you some space to advertise your own blog/cause/whatever. The more people I can get to help on this, the more chance of it actually happening. andyetfc
Good idea but will you need a street trader's licence?
Arthur Salisbury
Yeah, I thought about that. I'll have to apply. Would I need one if I were allowed to sell it inside the ground?
andyetfc
Would not have thought so inside the ground but it's worth speaking to Dave, one of our stewards, who works for the council. I am sure he would be able to point you in the right direction.
OldTowner
Can't see this being different to selling programmes etc. How often would it be published ?
Tom S
Fanzines? There's blast from the past. The perceived wisdom is that the rise of the blog has rendered them out of date but there's no harm in giving it a try. Certainly the TOTE days were great fun even if stapling sessions degenerated into five contributors all reading their own items to see what sort of mess the editor had made when typing them up. Email was very much in its infancy in those days and the editor had to cope with handwriting of various degrees of illegibilty. Indeed his Amstrad word processor was the height of sophistication. Good luck with your efforts.
Father Jack
And, speaking as aforesaid Editor, (who seemed to spend more time correcting grammar and spelling than actually editing), I too wish you luck with your efforts. Feel free to PM me if you need any advice or tips. BTW, we sold for 15 years inside the ground, often alongside the programme sellers, with no problems at all. We never felt the need to venture outside the ground, but I doubt that anyone would object if you were to sell it immediately outside the turnstiles. Towners&Irons
Probably be published monthly, if ever. I got an e-mail from 'Paul' (Millington?) saying that "As it would be unofficial then it is probably best if it was sold outside the ground." Anyone fancy doing a review of the season when it's over? King Crimson
I applaud you sir, for attempting to bring back fanzines to Enfield, and will be delighted to send you something for inclusion. TGTLS News never had a problem in being sold on the premises of Southbury Road, probably because they were giving the money back to the club in some way or another. I believe there are a few boxes of them still waiting to be sold, so maybe you could have a word with the editors and use them as free inserts! Just out of interest, is your fanzine to be serious or lighthearted?
Arthur Salisbury
There'll be room for both serious and lighthearted pieces. Probably more lighthearted though. A teaching acquaintance thinks she can get the kids from a local primary school to do the front cover.
andyetfc
Why not have a competition between school children to design the front cover.
Stanners66
Talking of grammar, can we please have the correct use of 'would have' not would 'of'? (Who know who you are! Fantastic website otherwise!) Thank you and good luck!
thecoldend
Big project to get off the ground. I spend hrs on The Cold End and programme article. in which I usually make an error or spelling mistake. Probably because I usually write it in the middle of the night after working or looking after the kids all day!!!! Arthur aka Irons what you gonna call it?
