Div One promotion hopefuls

The Phoenix

As we enter the final 1/3 or the season it has to be the tightest and most open Div 1 promotion race in a long time.

I read people making it a 3, 4 or 5 horse race but surely it's more like 7-9 teams still capable of pinching a top 3 place with over 25 matches to go between that bunch of clubs.

Think my money still on Westfield and Frimley despite their recent back to back defeats and Eversley must be strong candidates for the 3rd spot especially with Baker banging in goals despite carrying the shoulder injury!.

Still on that note does anyone know if all the chasing pack have facilities to go up as that always appears to me to make the process an anticlimax when teams get a stay of execution due to clubs not being able to go up as their ground and facilitybdoes not tick the boxes, whatever they happen to be as that is a whole different thread!

I think this had been the best division one season I've seen for a while, every team beating each other and like you said probably 6/7 in with a shout of promotion. Westfield and Frimley will go up, don't know about that 3rd spot yet!!

You can exclude Spelthorne & South Kilburn from that statement - they could finish in top 3 but wont have floodlights by 31st March so cant get promoted.

Frimley & Eversley both have work to do. Westfield & Mole Valley should be fine - as would be Staines Lammas if they made it into top 3.

I called at Christmas that everyone down to Staines still had a chance and i still stand by that. Lammas and Spelthorne Sports are the teams in fine form at the moment and Eversley seem to be getting back on track after a minor wobble. Kilburn are still very much in the mix and i hear the threat of points deduction for banned players has been thrown out. Certainly what any side doesnt want is any more postponed games as it's very hard to win 3 games in 7 days as history has shown.

Have to disagree BobUk, I think all the teams below Eversley to Staines have a real chance. For instance IF Staines win there 3 games in hand and manage a win at Eversley on Saturday they will then only be 3 points behind Eversley. I understand you have to get the points on the board first but with only Spelthorne and Eversley left to play from the top half you'd have to say there's a chance.

That's a massive ask for Lammas, will need Guernseys form from last season to go up, I think the top 3 now will be the teams to go up, Lammas will finish top six, then if they continue the good momentum that Steve and Ben have built then next season they will have a good chance.

Only time will tell at the end of the day...moneybags frimley are faltering of late, Westfield still have some tough games, and as has been said spelthorne and staines are lithe in form teams! Don't think kilburn will be in it as since they lost they're main man they haven't been the same! Long way to go yet and if more games get postponed then who knows!!

I think you might be right NLN. It will be a massive task for Lammas, my only problem is that their Achilles heel has been when it comes to the lower teams but confidence is high and never say never. Personally I think Spelthorne will nick 3rd.

There will be teams at the bottom of the Premier Division that hope they do

westfield are reknowned for faltering can they keep there nerve after all the hard work theyve put in to get there ground upgraded...........i hope so

eversley i think will win it in sav as manager an the players at his disposal are of prem quality an baker still banging em in

lammas i think have left it a little late but there momentum could see them put more into this unbeaten run an with the added squad members from staines seem to be jeling nicely

kilburn are a surprise never rated them as said already they cant go up

spelly also little bit late after faltering be good to have another derby though so id like to see them progress though no work at all is happening so i assume therell look to next year to gain promotion

frimley will come in second losing becomes a habit an they seem to be in that habit but there quality should see them through into second

I think GF spelthorne have the ground improvements in place.

It would take a miracle 4-5-1. They need floodlights & stand erected by 31st March. Earliest planning approval could be granted is 29th March. The plans etc should be enough to prevent them being relegated to Step 7 though, which is more than can be said for South Kilburn
