Cornish Rebel
Hi new to the forum. Lived in stoke road 25 years ago and followed slough town a bit.I used to see the floodlights from my window when a game was on .I moved to cornwall in 1988 and still follow slough scores .I wondered if anyone can tell me who is going to play at wexham park now.I saw the pics of it slowly falling apart but then saw the pics of it being done up .cheers
Sir Rebel1965
Richie - not meaning to sound negative but Slough Town FC have no envolvment at all with Wexham Park and any enquires about the ground should be with the owners of the site in regards to what they are doing with it. Slough Towns efforts are linked to the proposed Arbour park development - looking forward not looking back.
Cornish Rebel
Oh ok I know slough will have no more to do with wexham park but being out of the area for so long I wondered if anyone knew what was going on there.apologies if I have touched on a sore point just thought somebody might know.I still have family in the area involved in local football and they didn't know.it just seems a shame that a perfectly good football stadium with good memories for me was going to waste.Im probably just remembering it with 'rosé tinted glasses and I hope slough do find a permanent home back in slough where they belong ! Bernie Gogan
Richie, nobody knows what the owner's intention is. The ground has been left to fall into ruin, so any money invested to bring it up to scratch seems strange. If the intention is to use it for football (it's only permissable use if I'm correct) why let it go to ruin in the first place? It's a very sore point with us loyal supporters. Anyway as said before we're looking forward to having a ground adjacent to that one, but one that's in Slough Borough and is for Community use, not some millionaire's play thing. Thus far the council is on our side and working towards finally achieving planning permission, which could be any time soon, but then again maybe not................ Cornish Rebel
bernie I can see this is a sore point for the loyal slough fans and I do hope slough get a new ground where you want it but surely you must have some good memories of wexham park.when I first saw the pics of the ground in about 2005 I couldn't believe it and then when I saw the later pics it broke my heart to see the place in such a state.Living away from the area it took me a bit of time to find out the politics of slough being turfed out of the ground and can understand why you have issues with it.Anyway I saw pics in 2012 and the ground seemed to be being done up.I came to slough about three weeks ago and went to the ground to look but I couldn't get in it was all locked up.i just wondered if football was going to be played there again .....bring the old place back to life !!!!!! HEAVY TRUCKER
Richie there are rumours about that it might be used by an academy though no one knows who . and local reports say that the present owner is spending as much as £10000 to bring it up to scratch, though at todays prices i doubt if that will barely touch the surface of what needs to be done, the new grounds proposed site will be known to you as a former stoke road resident it is going to be on the old orchard school site, the Arbour vale school took over the site when the orchard school was closed a number of years ago but moved its self to a site opposite st Antonys church in the Farnham road now the building is used by theatre which in it self is going to move and the site is going to be given over to a community sports facility and cheap housing just as soon as the council and govt get themselves into gear and approve everything though when that will be is anybodies guess. Bernie Gogan
Richie, yes good memories indeed, but I was there in the clubhouse the day Martin Deaner held a meeting to decide where we should play from 2003 onwards and we voted for Windsor as a preference (over Harrow Borough I believe). I was also at the Town Hall protesting with many others about the club's plight in the following years and remember well the red card protest in the FA Cup game at Windsor versus Walsall. So Wexham Park has bitter sweet memories. To be honest the level we play at now is nowhere near the standard we've played at in the past and we've no real hope of improving greatly until we can generate income sufficient enough to support higher levels and that will only come from having our own ground. Football may be coming home to Slough but when is some way off yet by the look of things.
