End of season Walk (s)

Rebel Kay

Recommended Posts

After much debate about whether to walk to North Greenford as originally planned or Thatcham, which at this moment in time is the last away game, we decided we couldn't decide. So

Those that want to walk to NGU have approx 15 miles, along the canal on the Saturday to walk.

Those wanting to stick with tradition have about 35 miles to Thatcham spread over the Monday and Tuesday

Those who are totally nuts are welcome to do both.

Routes will be planned for both, forms provided etc.

Sticking with the indecisiveness of this walk, we have identified two charities which have special meaning for many Slough fans this year.

Firstly The Stroke Association in memory of John House as this was an organisation close to both his and Frances' hearts.

Secondly, SHINE, which is the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus support organisation, which is currently being called upon by another Rebels fan and his family.

Given that there are two walks, and two charities, we would like to call on as many people as possible to join in and complete one of the walks or to support those walking as you always do so generously.

Alan Harding will have forms available over the next few weeks.

I just wanted to say how touched Jo and I are at Shine being put forward as one of the charities for the walk(s). We received a great deal of support and information from shine following the diagnosis of spins bifida for my son Jacob

They aren't a big name charity and have limited resources, so a donation from the slough town walkers will be gratefully received

I had considered running to NGU as it's about the right distance for a training run but I don't think I will get any sponsorship because I am running a marathon for the MS Society in May (you have all been warned!) so may give the walk a miss this year. Two very worthy charities though and I will definitely chip in some money towards it.

I'm going to run up to NGU.

Will the route be available online as I'm not sure I will be attending any games between now and then?

Also, would anyone object if I donated all my sponsorship to Graham's choice of charity? This is the third sponsored thing I'm doing in the space of a few weeks so not sure I'll be raising huge amounts...friends and colleagues probably starting to get a bit fed up of me!

Cheers

Mark

Hi

Just in case anyone isn't aware.

The walkers will leave Wexham Park on Saturday at 9.30am to walk to NGU.

The club have kindly agreed to allow us to do a collection when we arrive, so if you haven't sponsored anyone yet, you can always contribute on the day.

I believe there are about 8 or so people walking. The youngest being Scarlett. She is accepting pence per whinge sponsorship rather than pence per mile as she expects this to be more lucrative!

Then on Monday and Tuesday, we will be walking to Thatcham, leaving the West Wing around midday on Monday
