Epsom Athletic vs Spelthorne Sports Sat 16th Feb

Hello, first post here and hope you're all well :)

Anyway, I've recently got into 'groundhopping' and thought that watching the Epsom v Spelthorne game at Chalky Lane would be an excellent idea. When I got to Chalky Lane at 14.30 it was deserted, save for a couple of kids playing with some rubble that said the game had been changed and wasn't playing there anymore. I made my way back to Chessington South station.........

Does anyone know what happened? The CC website reckons is was 1-0 (to Spelthorne) at Chalky Lane, the Epsom website says that it was to be played at Spelthorne's ground but has no result (and alludes me to think the game is still to be played) and Spelthorne's website hasn't had results entered into it since December! Just trying to figure out what happened. I was more than a little disappointed to find a deserted ground, after the CC website makes no mention at all of the rearranged fixture...........

Are these changes pretty commonplace in CC league? Also where's the best place to check these things, the CC website doesn't seem to help. Thanks in anticipation and hopefully get to see some CC action soon! :D

Welcome EX-SM3!

Sorry to hear of your wasted journey. Chalky Lane is prone to waterlogging and multiple postponements, so I assume that was why it was switched to Spelthorne to cut the risk of too many games having to be fitted in at the end of the season. It did finish 1-0 to Spelthorne. Unfortunately several of the CCL club websites are next to useless as they are rarely updated. Twitter is a much better way of keeping in touch, as most (not all) CCL clubs regularly tweet regarding fixtures and other news. In fact I think both Epsom and Spelthorne tweeted yesterday/day before about the fixture switch. Alternatively, such news usually also gets posted up on here.

Better luck next time!

Thanks for the welcome and also for the tips TRS! I'll certainly check Twitter and here a bit more often, Must admit I was a little gutted at first yesterday, but I had a birthday do to go to in the evening, and I had one or two jobs to get on with, so I used the time constructively in the end! With the grounds, there are some truly excellent blogs/sites about groundhopping, but I think to appreciate it you have to see the real thing - up to now my football exploits were with friends following Tooting & Mitcham, so it's really good to see other leagues/grounds and how it all works!

This forum is your best bet for CCL fixtures and I think it was mentioned on here. The other place would be the Non League Matters site (what used to be another forum). Lots of talk on there last week about various clubs switching fixtures because of the fixture pile-up. The CCL wasn't the only league who did it, some others did too. Even the FA Vase did it with the Wallsall Wood and Newport IOW fixtures played away.

The Newport IOW fixture was changed as the pitch has been dug up for a drainage problem and would they can not play on it until 5th March, so Newport did try to find another ground in the IOW but no luck so the FA moved the game as they wished it to get played asap, as the 5th March is the Q/Fdate with the S/F's on the 23rd & 30th March so not much time to get any replays arranged...also Newport IOW are already looking at two fixtures in midweek to get the Wessex league fixtures finished, and no one wished to waste a saturday if the pitch at Ascot Utd was playable.
