STFC v North Greenford

Recommended Posts

Even though we are not playing very well at the moment a glance at the current league table would suggest that tomorrow night at long last we can pick up an EASY three points.

North Greenfords solitary league victory was when they defeated fellow strugglers Woodford 1-0 on the FIRST day of the season. So for once Steve wont have to tell his players that they

are facing tough opponents.

However, looking at their results in more detail would suggest that they will not be a pushover and that the Rebels will have to work hard for the points.

They managed to get a 1-1 draw away to Godalming.

They have also lost by only a solitary goal in their encounters with Rugby Daventry and Guildford. They also only lost by the odd goal in seven to the mighty Uxbridge who took all six points off us.

So it looks like another TOUGH game after all.

COYR.

2-0 up h/t.

Doing just about enough to beat what's in front of us ATM - but I think we should be thankful that what's in front of us are (don't want to be disrespectful) utter pants!

A 2-goal h/t lead is a 2-goal h/t lead though

Not the most exciting of matches but still very grateful for the 3 points.

Difficult for me to pick a MOM but thought Alex had a solid game.

I hope Dominic's injury is not too serious.

Looking forward to Saturday's game at Ashford as that will provide us with a stiffer test.

was a strange game in which we struggled for large parts and if not for awful finishing and some good Jacko saves we could have easily shipped a few goals

did what we had to do which was get the win. if we were more clinical maybe we would have got a few more goals but with so many games to come result is what matters

Dom came in and proved a point. was a shame he got a nasty tackle and looks to be in quite a bit of pain. Kyle Anthony again looked bright and took his goal well.

job done on to the next one

Much better performance tonight from all the players who seemed up for it from start to finish and on another night we could have scored a hatful.

Have to disagree with Nathan, I thought North Greenford were an OK side who kept battling and were certainly not the worst team we've played.

Everyone played well with my pick of the players being Rhone, Swift, Anthony, Parsons and Burgess.

Jake Parsons my MOTM for an excellent non-stop all round display, finished off with a goal.

Decent performance all round, just what we needed after Saturday. Agree that Anthony had a good game and was unlucky not to get another goal, I also thought that Rhone and Swift down the left looked useful once again.

Should point out that from where I was it looked like Rhone got the touch for the first goal rather than Burnell.

Hopefully we can get on a winning run and push up towards the playoffs. I know the league cup isn't popular but we are not far away from possible silverware, and winning breeds confidence so we should just go out there and give it a go.

Better but still room for improvement. I think we should have really racked up 6 or 7 goals. To be fair to their keeper he made 3 excellent saves but there were quite a few occasions where our forwards could have looked for a pass to a teammate in a better area rather than shoot. At 2 nil we had a few nervous moments where NGU might have got back into it with Jacko making a few good saves and them hitting the post I think.

We saw the value of playing Stuart Swift – great delivery for the first goal and the quality of his corners was a massive improvement on recent matches...pity there’s no big Nathan to get on the end of them. Olly Burgess was everywhere so I’d give him MOTM, but Kyle and Jake ran him close. Shame for Dom, looked good before the injury.

It's funny how different fans have divided opinions on who played well and who didn't. For me Kyle Anthony was the pick of the bunch. Also Jake Parsons deserved some credit for working extremely hard and must have been out to prove to some of his detractors on here, that he is better than some claimed him to be at the Chalfont game.

For me,he's well worth a place in the team.

I wasn't so impressed with Ollie Burgess,as I find he drifts in and out games,as he did last night. Thought Dominic Rhone worked hard enough but he often chooses to run into the opposition player for a free-kick than try to use his pace to beat a player and go past him to get the cross in.However,he was clearly fouled by the Greenford No 9 and a caution should have been given to the Greenford player. The referee was too lenient at times.

Thought both keepers played well last night. We had plenty of chances especially in the 2nd half to have put the game out of Greenford's reach but failed to capitalise till Jake's goal. More worrying though, was that Greenford had three clear cut chances of their own, which had they been better finishers would have given Slough bigger causes of concern than what materialised. To me, our defence looks leaky and we have yet to find the solution for NBH. Better sides will expose this weakness.

considering North Greenford only have 4 points i was surprised at how many times they exposed us at the back. if anything they caused us more problems than Chalfont did and yet the 2 games final results of course were extremely different. credit to NGU they really didn't look like a team that has 4 points
