Enfield Town vs Kingstonian

Actually 90 + 3 minutes, which made it even worse.

Still Town played from the 50th minute with 10 men following Joe O'Brien being sent off, so overall a point each was about right.

If Only, If only, Brian Hammatt had hit the net rather than the top of the stand in the first halh

Doh.

Oh, and no Gio did not play.

A bit harsh to single out Bryan given the number of Kingstonian efforts that were either woefully off target or straight at Noel. That is to say all bar the one that went in.

Disappointing to lose the two points the way we did but we did well to hang on to the lead as long as we did. Scott led the line beautifully on his own after the red card and Tyler in particular did well from midfield to support him.

I don't often criticise referees but I can't help feeling this one realised he'd made a big mistake on our penalty - having played advantage not many refs would have called it back once the shot had been missed. There was absolutely no way he could have seen where Joe's tackle (I avoid the word 'foul' deliberately) was from his position. At least he listened to his linesman who said the incident was outside the box and overruled his initial penalty award.

Before Tuesday night if you'd offered me four points from the two games I'd have taken them.

One of the controversial moments in the game is below.. Very very harsh on Joey O'Brien to be red carded, it seems the art of tackling has ended. Full highlights will follow when I've had the chance to edit them all together.

Steve is going to view it and make a decision to appeal the decision or not??? Hopefully the footage will help

No wonder local hacks don't make it to regional or national press with such shoddy biased journalism as this:

http://www.yourlocalguardian.co.uk/sport/football/nonleague/10235428._/?

Among the 'gems' in this piece of 'journalism' are:

Kingstonian had "numerous missed chances and unjustly ignored penalty shouts". Yet only one mentioned is this: "Dean Lodge ... ... should have won a penalty ten minutes from time but the referee inexplicably gave a free-kick three yards outside the box." That's the only one I can think of as Cold Ends footage above shows O'Brien's challenge was outside the box.

"But there was only one team making the running on Saturday as Enfield struggled to cope with Ks' pace and power."

I would say it was a fairly even first half. They had a couple of good chances including Vines missing a sitter just before the break, but then Hammett put one over the bar for us when hitting the target seemed easier, and we even hit the bar ourselves from a scramble at the edge of the box that resulted in their keeper flapping as the ball hit the bar. Can also add that Tyler and Gunz ran their full backs ragged the entire first half, with Tyler continuing to do so in the second half as a great outlet when we were down to 10 men.

I would rather trust the judgement of The K's coach, who afterwards remarked that "had you offered us a point before the game I would have taken it." A fine commentator and an honest gentleman is Martin Tyler.

Also would like to add that SN and the coaching staff deserve credit and great judgement for keeping Tyler on when we went down to 10 and taking Bryan off. Tyler continued to keep their defence busy when he had the ball at his feet.

Well done Town, as Tom S has said above, if we were offered 4 points from the next two games before kick-off on Tuesday we would have accepted them. As it stands we are all slightly disappointed that the team has played over 180 minutes of football without conceding a goal and we only have 4 points to show for it.

Onwards to Lowestoft we go...

I actually agreed with quite a lot in that article - but there you go, we all have opinions!

Whilst it was disappointing not to win, having led for so long, I certainly wouldn't begrudge Kingstonian a point on that showing - if they'd taken their chances they would have won though that would have been harsh on our lads for all the effort they put in.

I think the appreciation shown by the Town faithful at the end showed that most felt this to be a point gained rather than 2 lost. Coupled with the Met Police result, we had a good week that was well deserved. Kingstonian aren't far off the top and won't be far away at the end of the season - I wish them well against Whitehawk tomorrow night after what went on in the earlier tie!

Home friendly tonight against Billericay Town with a 7.30 kick off - be nice if a few make it along though I guess it will give Steve a chance to give some of the squad players some game time.

Cold End

Just had a look on your site and a superb still here

As we saw in real time from behind the goal about 80 yards away, the ball continued on the path that JOB was sliding on, indicating that he must have made contact with the ball. He didn't come in from the back, it was from the side. TheCameraMan9's footage shows this clearly as well. The ref would have been in the roughly in the centre circle at the time of the challenge. Surely you have to look at the direction the ball goes after a challenge has been made? Common sense, or was the ref just trying to even things up after the loud K's complaints re our penalty? As an aside, I'm led to believe refs are perfectly entitled to play advantage and then bring play back, even if the original foul would have lead to a penalty.

Anyway, a very poor decision by the official.
