Cookie10
Just an idea.... A young lad called Bradley Steer (son of Roger and brother to Matt, who are both known through local football, including CCL) has been hospitalised in thailand following a nasty accident through no fault of his own. A friend of the family has set up the attached fundraising page to try and help the family thought this difficult and expensive time for them. I don't know Brad that well, but do know he is a great honest lad. Feel free to donate or not, am sure every little will help. Or spread the link so others can consider helping. https://fundrazr.com/campaigns/7Qy96
The Mayor Of Simpleton
I am really sorry to hear of this, and my thoughts and prayers are with Bradley's family. Happy to donate, and if anybody close to their family is looking to do an event to fund-raise, I will ask a few acts if they can do it pro gratis. Cookie10
Am sure he family will appreciate all donations, even just a couple of quid. I am not 100% sure but have heard rumours that the insurance company are not being very helpful with covering costs!!!!
The Mayor Of Simpleton
Sounds a bit like a case recently where Friends Provident refused to pay out on something similar. Pass on my best wishes and hopefully we can help out.

The Mayor Of Simpleton
I don't wish to be seen as going 'beyond authority' here (God knows I got enough of it with helping teams out with friendlies earlier this season...) but if you're thinking of doing an event in a pub/hall/clubhouse and need a headline act I'm prepared to speak with Suzanne Hunt who manages Glenn Tillbrook of Squeeze. Maybe I can chat with Suzanne to see if Glenn is prepared to do a charity gig (either with the reformed Squeeze or his band The Fluffers). Always happy to help. Cookie10
Sounds good and think NLN and Westfield might be organising some charity events. I just wanted to get the charity link out there for people to consider donating to help the family
TRS
Bit more detail from Get Surrey: http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/news/s/2129139_appeal_launched_for_victim_of_thai_bus_crash
Cookie10
There's some charity events listed on the get surrey link as well which people could get involved win to help. Nice one TRS for adding the link - shows how lucky Brad is and what a tough time the family are having to endure!

Trebor
As a frequent visitor to Thailand it doesn't surprise me to hear of this accident. I read about bus/minibus and taxi crashes on a weekly basis and most of them involve tourists. Whilst the vehicles themselves are usually fairly well maintained it is the inability of the drivers to comprehend road safety, many of them use drugs to stay awake and the majority are driving against the clock in order to make as much money as they can on that particular shift. I don't know if you guys heard but two Guernsey residents were killed in Thailand just a couple of weeks ago as a pickup driver smashed into them on their bicycles after reaching down to pick up his hat. This couple were on a round the world cycling trip and had negotiated much more dangerous countries prior to arriving in the 'Land of Smiles'. http://www.dailymail...r-Thailand.html For any of you who may be thinking of travelling to Thailand in the future i encourage you to fork out the extra cash and fly if the journey time by road takes more than a couple of hours. As an aside i also have had a couple of friends crash scooters in Thailand and come away with very serious injuries although on these occasions some of the fault has to lie with them as they werent wearing helmets and there was probably alcholol involved. I've been there and done that and whilst it might seem like a good idea at the time it's not worth the risk. There were clearly problems with insurance companies on those occasions and I can only assume that Bradley's insurers are making it difficult because it was unlikely he was wearing a seatbelt, but who does on a bus? I hope that Bradley makes a full recovery and that he gets the opportunity to continue his travels at a later date.
Cookie10
It is shocking the amount of avoidable accidents that seem to be occurring. I understand that Bradley was extremely lucky as sadly the person in front of him and next to him didn't survive the crash that shouldn't have happened!! And insurance companies are out of order!! Trebor
I should add that I initially assumed this to be a mini bus crash but having read the story it was a scheduled bus service so the driver might not necessarily be at fault as they would get paid a salary and work reasonable hours rather than a 'per passenger per hour' fare. Cookie10
It is understood to be his fault through speeding, a number of people asking him to slow down - just before he crashed.
