feckin weather

I know I know we are governed by the great (excuse the pun) british weather but just how much rain/wet/snowy weather can this country take...... on the non-league football side of this............ not a great deal more. There cant be many teams that are not holding at least two games in hand and some are holding ten plus, so my point would be if more than five to eight teams cannot fulfil their commitment of games for the season what do the league do. Surely a team cant be accused of not playing games that referees have called off or abandoned and surely they cant be held accountable for games that cannot be played due to BAD weather conditions. If the wet weather holds out for the next few weeks I can see a lot of teams going to the wall financially due to reduced income through the turnstile and reduced interest in non-league football - sound depressed - yep I am :(

I don't think its just a question of finishing games this season, and associated state of pitche.

Is there also a question of how much money clubs need to and areable to invest in their pitches during the summer months to bring them up to scratch for next season.

They are going to take a lot of repairing -and hence alot of money.

Not many clubs at this level will have sufficient funds to invest in pitches in the summer-and with a bit of early season bad weather next season-pitches could be diabolical .

can't help giving it to maidstone for making the right medium term call

AND..............................ok it is a big AND..............plans are afoot for the next bit of kit to be donated which will render the pitch to such perfection we will be passing rings apound all opposition next season. Hoof will be reserved for the meat content of the burgers...............ah there's another question ?

Great win today.

There is always a time and place for hoof in my opinion.

Not at game -so can't really comment-but sometimes you see more flowing football against better sides-because they in turn have confidence and like to play-and thus allow you to play;whereas can it be the case that teams of lesser quality just try and stop you playing-and they are fully entitled to do exactly that-so you have to revert to 'hoof'.

I was there and we won this game by playing football. Hoofing would have cost us the points against this lot because all that happens is that the ball comes straight back at you and they do have some strong skilful players. Our left back loanee from Stoke played some lovely balls down the channels on occasion which was really nice to see

I was very surprised at the state of the pitch today. No blame on Graham by the way, but despite the lack of rain the past week it still looked very boggy when the ball landed on it. We have always prided ourselves on the pitch in the past and rearely had a match called off. Something is seriously wrong with the drainage system this year. Itsbeen raining most of the day in Croydon/Bromley, so lucky it did not reach East Kent today.

Yes there is, and this brings me to our second appeal of the week (There'll be no more from me this season after this). Whilst talking to Graham Ives and a few of the kind and generous supporters who had pledged and paid towards the electronic substitute board. Graham said he was in desperate need of a "Vertidrainer" a piece of plant equipment that he needs to hire, to help with the drainage so that he does not have any more games called off especially with the advancement of snow or more rain. This i think pierces large drainage holes around to enable the water to flow off better He says the hire cost is around £350.00p.

With this £130.00 was immediately pledge/given to me (honest face) to collect. This is something that he NEEDS Now could/would any of you kind people be able to pledge and give me money this week to pay for it. I am not ashamed to name the following people who immediately came forward.

Kevin Holland gave £20

Keith Piper gave £10

Danny riding gave £10

Mr cooper gave £10

Frankie's Neice gave £10

Peter Cove gave £10

Blue Blood gave £10

Rik gave £10

Pledges from

UBLOW £20

Derek £10

Cookie £10

Please, please again respond to Grahams need urgently.....By the way what a great game and a great result

Apparently it helps to assist drainage in highly compacted surfaces such as football pitches. The benefits of verti-draining are :

  • deep aeration of grass rootzone which increases root development
  • relieves compaction with minimal surface disturbance
  • improves soil structure so pitches don't wear out as quickly

Verti-draining is usually carried out in the spring and autumn when pitches are soft but not under water

Thank you Professor Stephen Hawkins...
