Slough Match Sec
OFF 20% of the pitch is unplayable. Barton spent all day yesterday working on it. The ref said it will not dry out in time.

Mr Rebel
seriously!! surely waiting a few more hours to give it a chance would have been worth it considering how many games are being called off in the league
Martin
It's a load of rubbish. Get some sand on it and get it played. The refs need to look at some footage from games in the sixties and seventies and the mud baths played on then. No one was seriously hurt and in those days you were allowed to tackle. With all the matches being called off recently games need to be give every chance to be played. Unless of course Barton wanted the game off. Anyone smell a rat? Mr Rebel
without seeing it for yourself cannot judge how bad it is but i'm gobsmacked that it can be so definitively called off so early in the day if its only a tiny part of the pitch. Sir Rebel1965
Maybe the club should change ground sharing to Slough Bowls Club in Chalvey and then the ref's may be happy with the pitch?
Matt
It's completely frustrating but I can't see the League doing anything about it, they will argue there are enough Tuesdays and Thursdays until the end of the season. I also don't think we can throw accusations at other clubs that they don't want the game played. Barton haven't played a league game since 12 January either, and have been training indoors during the freezing/wet weather recently, which all costs money. I don't see why any club would have an agenda against us. Our away following is not as big as it used to be in any case. I hope I'm not proved wrong and Barton have a massive injury crisis, but I can't see it. I would agree with those that say the decision should be made later by the referee though. Part of the decision was probably the distance for the away side to travel, but I'm sure Bates would have taken the risk.

Nathan
I'm so sorry people, but it appears that my pre-season prayers for an extended cup run and as many Saturday cancellations as possible have been answered! Even I didn't expect it to be this effective though!

readingrebel
I'm sorry but this really does stink. Every other game on except our one including the infamous Woodford mud heap and other mud heaps i.e. Chertsey, AFC Hayes and North Greenford. Every game on in our division except our game, including Woodford's and Arlesey's a few miles down the road. What good was a 9.30 inspection considering the weather and especially when the travelling distance was about an hour for fans and for some players even less. Who did the early inspection? a local ref known or attached to Barton? I'm sorry but I'm seething about this game being off and really feel we've been cheated. BTW Barton played a cup game on the pitch last week and then miraculously both the next games were called off.
Savagebee
I was at the North Greenford United v Godalming Town game and the pitch was heavy in places but well playable. Do the refs still get payed if they call the game off ?

Do the refs still get payed if they call the game off ? Don't know but I would imagine if the games called off early and the Refs haven't travelled they wouldn't get paid. I'm pretty certain that if a games called of like todays at 9.30ish it's normally done by a local qualified Ref. if the match Ref is not local. How they prove they are qualified to the league and not somebody who is not qualified I don't know. I certainly think there are times when it should be left to the match Ref. to inspect the pitch and IMO today was definitely one of those days.
