Eastbourne game now OFF

This is becoming a total joke.

Surely a referee, be it a local one, or the match referee, should use the same criteria for assessing the pitch. I've been out and about this afternoon, and apart from some drizzle, the weather has not deteriorated.

I feel sorry for Eastbourne, who must have made the journey

Word!!

Our game was called off at 2pm today in Bath and there had been no rain in Bath Today (we had fans down there already), Our players took days off work and were waiting to board the coach when it was called off at 2pm, there wasnt even an inspection announced!!. How , when it hasnt rained or snowed can a game be called off 5 hours before kick off that could have been called off the day before if it was "unplayable". Especially when the away team and fans have a long trip.

Have you been getting refs from miles away? Weve had refs for HOME games, from Dorset, Cambridge, Ipswich, Peterborough etc etc. Surely if it was a more local ref , say next county that isnt from same area as one of the teams then these late call offs wouldnt happen?

Totally agree JgFc.

This is non league football and some of these Refs behave as though they are auditioning to be Howard Webb. I understand the importance of player safety but once a local ref deems it fit to play, then the match official should only be allowed to call it off with the agreement of BOTH managers.

Not acceptable really. A premier league linesman gives the game the go ahead at 2 pm. The weather doesnt deteriorate at all til 6.30 when the match day referee does his pitch inspection (in his Clarks size 9) and calls the game off.

The FA website states that if a referee has deemed the game unplayable in an initial pitch inspection then the playing conditions must have deteriorated sufficiently for the game to then be called off.

As irritating as it is, it could have been worse.

To get my football fix I went searching for a local game instead, and ended up at Thurrock v C*nvey.

The pitch looked excellent when we arrived, but at half time the match was abandoned, and probably rightly so.

I didn't see the Riccay pitch, but can't help feeling that ours would have gone the same way had it started.

As an aside, I see the islanders scouting network doesn't bother going too far afield - in the line up were Ashlee Jones, Dumas, Hawes, Chatting, and BWG - a veritable feast of players not good enough to continue playing for a proper Essex club!

I also noticed Danny Green on the team sheet for Thurrock - surely not the one who left us for Dagenham?
