NonLeague i
after swanseagate on wednesday night some of the top brass were asking questions whether to ban ball boys completely. is this somehting that will affect us at our level as i know some clubs struggle to find kids willing to do it even if they do offer free entry and tracksuits etc. I remember last season i believe a ballboy came onto the pitch at a guildford game at the below par spectrum and the wembley keeper struck him on the head and escaped punishment. do ballboys cause problems? help or hindrance? Big J R
An interesting subject. At our level it is always hard to find anybody to 'volunteer' to help ot at a match. The Chelsea incident goes a lot deeper than just Hazard 'kicking' the ball-boy, who just happened to be the son of one of the Club directors. I leave you to draw your own conclusions. Carthorse
Was thinking about this and a few came bacj to me. Last season away at Colliers Wood we were winning by a few goals and as we were behind the goal as normal the keeper pleaded with us not to get the ball back so he could get the ball back and wast some time ! Giving the ball back at Dorking this season saw the keeper drop it and get the hump saying it was thrown back to hard! A long time ago in the Athenian League Days away at Chalfornt St Peter a young kid took his time getting the ball back and the referee went mad shouting at him, waving his finger etc at him and saying he would get him thrown out he was our Assistant managers son! He was 10 years old.
NonLeague i
if its your ballboys and your winning obviously it works in your favour to time waste and guess its part of the game. but as a former player it does save alot of effort having ballboys to chase the ball and find it in the woods (as often happened with the strikers in our league) so wouldnt like to see them gone completely. maybe kids just arent interested in non league football to volunteer which i feel is a great shame as often non league games are more interesting and have more action then many premier league games.
