Thatcham tomorrow is OFF

We have considered that Reading.

Not sure that its going to be much more playable on Tuesday. Maybe more snow over weekend. or rain, which on top of the snow will leave a waterlogged pitch.

I have a cunning plan, which may or may not come off, if it does I will tell you all about it, if not, at least I have tried!

I really thought the Thatcham game would be on as the weather conditions this week around where I live in Slough have been fine - a bit cold but that's Winter for you. As Thatcham is only 35 miles away it is hard to believe that their weather conditions can be so drastically different from ours.

Before people start sending me pictures of a Thatcham pitch covered in 6 ft snow drifts I'm just pointing out how unreal the situation seems.

For me personally it means I will be watching a lot fewer league games this season as every time an AWAY game is moved from a Saturday to a Tuesday (or Thursday) it's another game that I will miss altogether.

From a selfish point of view today's game being off suits me but from the clubs point of view it's another nail in the coffin for our chances of winning the league.

I must admit with the game being local-ish and a thaw forecast I was a bit surprised the game was called off yesterday and not left to an inspection sometime this morning.

Not living very far from Thatcham the park across the road is clear of any snow and IMO a distinct possibility that football could be played on it.

Looking at the web-cam in Thatcham the snow seems to have gone.

I know every pitch is different and the game could still have been called off for waterlogging etc. but knowing how desperate we are to get games on I don't see what harm it would have been to have left an inspection till today.

The pictures that I and the League were sent yesterday afternoon showed a complete covering of snow, that would not have shifted by today. Farnham Park was still covered and SYCOBs game was also called off this morning.

I don't think that whether it was called off yesterday or today makes any difference to the outcome of it being called off.

Generally we get complaints that it is left to the day to do it when its obvious it isn't going to happen.

Kay,

all I'm going by is the Thatcham web-cam which this morning at about 11 showed no snow, the park across the road which is 15 minutes drive from Thatcham, had no snow on it.

SYCOB's game was called off because of a waterlogged pitch.

I'm really not pointing the finger or blaming anybody because you have a hard enough job as it is, I'm just saying because the travelling distance was fairly short, the predicted thaw and the predicament were in, I don't see what we had to lose by leaving it to a Saturday morning inspection.

I've seen loads of places where there is absolutely no snow except for the odd field, even whrb side by side. So it's very hard to say that just because one area of a place is clear somewhere near isn't

My point being is that if there is even a slim chance of a game being on we should take that chance. Nothing to lose.

i'm totally with you reading i think in this case the gun was well and trully jumped, fine if there is a long journey to be covered but if it is local then every chance should be given. still i'm waiting for this master plan, i hope that we do indeed have one , if we do not then it is about time we got one sorted out and quick, then we don't have to panic later on when the fixture list really does get cramped, just keep to the plan make fine adjustments here and there when it's called for everything smooth and calm best way to win this division, that is of course if we have a plan? but what am i talking about this is slough we will just do as normal whatever that is.
