Extended Season?

Recommended Posts

Fair point, but at least you did not have to take time off work for each away mid-week match. :)

Sorry, but as far as Guernsey are concerned, we have done this subject to death on the CoCo forum.

No-one is FORCING players to give up work to play mid week, and the Club must have realised the potential problems when they originally applied to join the Combined Counties.

I'm NOT having a go, just stating the obvious facts.

Welcome to the world of grassroots football, if you club aims to progress up the pyramid then it gets worse.

If you don't like the rules then perhaps you should have stuck to playing island football.

Why do you assume that SSMFL or 'other' CCL players have jobs where they can finish in sufficient time to be at the ground by 6.30pm at the latest, as required by many clubs.

Maybe everybody finishes work 'early' on Guernsey - but this is London, and there are a few million other workers also trying to get home in the rush hour - so 'time off' is a necessity for many!!

Not the SSML's fault as it its an FA rule but it has always puzzled me why the season finishes in April just as the weather is much more conducive to getting supporters through the turnstiles. Lighter evenings, warmer, drier (hopefully).

It does seem to make logical sense to have a break during the periods when games get called off due to snow/frost etc and extend the season when the weather is better

Sorry JR,

Personally I fully support Guernsey in their quest to venture up the pyramid, but being a frequent reader of postings on the CCL forum I know that there are certain posters who want all things to be dealt Guernsey's way.

Now where did I put that can-opener :P

Sorry, its been taken the wrong way, not complaing at all, was just trying to say its not only your league that is faced with issues and perhaps the FA will need to look at extendingthe season for all Leagues. I am very much enjoying being part of the pymarid, just wish we all had some football to watch!

Yes but not having to leave at lunchtime and then miss the first couple of hours next morning. Not easy for anyone, thats for sure.

Don't quote me but I believe the length of the season is decided by the League's member clubs at their AGM and must be within guidelines laid down by the Football Association. Going higher up the pyramid you have to take into consideration play-offs for promotion and relegation that have to be played in order that the structure for the following season is established, along with the fact that players contracts expire thus not allowing them to play after a certain date.

It does seem like we have had a mid season break now anyway ;)

I would be vey happy if the season gets extended.

Our pitch is going to get hammered from now till the end of the season with the amount games that still have to be played on it

It could effect our passing style of football that Mr Duffy demands.

UP THE TOWN!

I fully support Guernsey in their quest to progress up the pyramid, and think they will succeed in doing so.

However, they can hardly complain about the games they have played, if you're situated on an Island, there are going to be issues...end of.

Furthermore, with an average attendance of over 1000, they should have no problems with income- thus can afford to pay players (both wages and travel) or even enlarge their squad if need be.

To clarify, none of the players are paid, their flights etc. are paid for though.
