Extended Season?

Recommended Posts

Will the season be extended? We have played 22 league games in 7 months and have 20 to play in less than 3 as I doubt out game Saturday will be on. Looks to be two to three games a week here on in. Worse for teams who have a chance of doing something this season could cause real problems.

I draw your attention to the latest e-mail from fixture secretary Eric Harrison

Will all clubs please note that there is a possibility that some clubs will be playing two midweek fixtures in March and April. I have to complete the fixtures for the Premier and Division One on the last Saturday in April, hence the advance notice of what might happen.

Karen think this would be a little unfair due to the fact that we have had 2 saturdays free in November and then another 2 free in January.

Are you sure your League Season started seven months ago on 23rd June 2012?

Don't shoot me I'm only the messenger, although I do see your point however having in the past been a fixture secretary (albeit for Sunday football) it is extremely hard trying to juggle fixtures to please everyone especially when clubs ground share

Why though is the Secretary being so inflexible as to not extend the season by an extra week or 2 ? There's no play-offs to complicate matters, so a bit of common sense would take the pressure off.

From the AGM Minutes

11. To fix date for commencement and conclusion of playing season

11.1. Mr Harrison said fixtures in the Premier and Division One would commence on Saturday 11th August with the end of the playing season for league matches set for the last Saturday in April. Division Two league fixtures would commence on Saturday 18th August and under FA regulations could run on until the first Saturday in May. Fixtures in the Reserve Section would commence on either August 18th or 25th.

Twenty games in 3 months (13 weeks) equals one and a half games a week, and if (and I realise it's a 'big' IF), you play every Saturday, you'll have six midweeks with no game!!

It may be a deadline that has been set by the FA.

I believe that any extension for the top two divisions has to be approved by the FA

Red Tape

How hard could it be to extened the season by a week or two if needed.

Sorry to butt in on your situation, but I have to agree that an extension for all Leagues should be considered by the FA. Here in Guernsey we have only played 16 league games due to weather and also our run in the FA Vase. We currently are faced with eight League games in sixteen days!

It can be done - see http://www.hertfordtownfc.co.uk/2000_2001games.htm

Fair point, but at least you did not have to take time off work for each away mid-week match. :)

It can't be done. Hertford's results proved that with 1 win in 17 games !

Even then 3 matches were taken into May to help the season finish. I remember that season well as that was my last season playing. Had loads of games to play for Benfleet & got about 12 games in for Canvey reserves aswell. The 1st team missed out on promotion to the Conference because they had so many games to fit in & couldn't keep the level of performance up.
