Saturday 26th January - Fixtures, Results

When I've got a minute I might post thoughts. Nothing to do with anyone from Ampthill, nothing to do with the hours I put in, an honest opinion of how pathetic this politically correct this game has now become.

If I do post my thoughts, any fines, any bans, then I'll do my punishment, if you can justify them.

I love this game, just hate the t***s who think they're bigger than the game itself

2reports off another forum...........no pleasing some people!!

FA Vase 4th Round

Ampthill Town P-P Enfield 1893

The morning pitch inspection had it as on - a later inspection was planned but the club was optimistic. On arrival of course, the game was off. The pitch was clear of snow but the referee considered the centre circle area waterlogged. The Ampthill officials were understandably not happy. Oh well, that's the way it goes!

Actually, a better reason for calling the game off would have been the state of the car park - it was pure compacted ice and snow and quite treacherous for spectators arriving.

When I arrived at the ground for this game at 2.15 to find it was off, the groundsman said I could take a look at the pitch and go on it if I wanted. It surprised me that a greater concern wasn't the touchline which was close to frozen and the banks of snow that were piled up very close to the touchline. I walked into the centre circle as well - it was muddy but hardly waterlogged or unplayable. 10 years ago they'd have played it without a second thought, unfortunately those days are gone.

Ended up getting to Arlesey v Leamington for a revisit just before kick off. Not much fun as Leamington benefitted from a debatable penalty and sending off in the first quarter of the game, but any football is better than no football.

Your pitch was boggy, please SB, not music to ones ears LOL.

For Ampthill is was a gallant effort to get the game played, and, given practically every other game had been called off then what would have been probably the biggest crowd witnessed for many years at the club a profitable money spinner.

The club had a local Ref inspect the pitch early doors, he said clear the pitch of the ice and with the sun it should be on, agreed it would get cut up but in his opinion with a few hours to spare had a great chance.

In all honesty had the game been called off for safety reasons then you'd accept that and say we tried, to have cleared all the snow and ice then have the match official call it off because it was a little boggy in the centre was an absolute joke, to the point the original Ref said he was totally embarrassed by that decision????

As for Enfield, did they want to play the game, had they prepared, only they know, but for a step 5 club bring their 'safety officer' to the game, please, I'm nearly bursting I'm laughing so much.

Finally as for the pitch, had you seen what we played on at Oadby last year then ours was a bowling green, I'm sorry the Respect rule works both ways, absolutely no respect for the efforts made by the club.

To those who were going to come and watch would have been much appreciated, for those that did venture only to find it called off can only apologise, however if you did see the pitch then maybe you'd be as baffled as we are.

Totally agree that to call it off just because its a little boggy is a farce.

Bring back good old fashioned cup-ties played in the mud, a great leveller.

The world's gone PC crazy.

Agree the state of the car park, was like an ice skating rink.

However this is council owned and, as a Nursery uses the facility all week am surprised they hadn't contacted the Council re its condition.

At least the guy agreed the waterlogged centre circle for which the game was called off for was a bit of a farce

Was gutted to turn up and be told it was off.

From a neutral point of view, the pitch did look very wet (although I didn't get to go on the pitch) and the piled snow quite close.

However I think it was rude to call off the game after the effort put in. I have no doubt the attendance would well have been over 300. No other local football, travelling away fans, luton away, and a prestigious game? Really, really feel for Ampthill. :450:

If both teams wanted to play, then I feel the game should have been played.

All the best Ampthill, hope get the win next way and will endeavor to be there to cheer you on!

Well for one Ref to call another's decision embarrassing says a lot.

We've played on worse, as many clubs probably have, call it off for safety reasons yes, but to not consider the efforts made and the potential rewards this game had, the fact that Enfield had also travelled too tho the decision pleased them, it just stinks.

And yep, remember the games when you couldn't see a blade of grass, the 1972 League Cup Semi Final replay at Old Trafford between West Ham and Stoke springs to mind, if you've never seen it find it, makes the game as it is today and decisions in some an absolute lottery.

Nice one mate and on behalf of the club appreciated.

Agree it was wet but not dangerous, and of two Refs there today both said they'd have played it.

Had the snow been considered too close to the playing surface that easily in the time left could have been moved further back.

One guy ruins a whole day, a rewarding day and a chance for players for once in their life to play in front of a proper crowd, and then they have the nerve to claim half their expenses.

In the real world it's so wrong, but the real world ended many moons ago!!!

I bet you can't wait to see that referee next week ;)

I was at Sun Postal Sports in December, and the pitch was worse than that. Good, common sense old fashioned referee played the game. Both teams and officials had turned up and warmed up in the rain and were already soaked.

Everyone wants a game of football, people are already saturated...play it.

So gutted for you today. Good ambitious club.

Remember though, not all referees are the same and it is a tough job. If Ampthill won today, then enfield complained about the surface and referee's judgement bringing the result into disrepute.

As for what you said about once in their life playing in front of a decent crowd: Ampthill have come a long way, and will continue to do so.

huge respect no.13. You should all be proud of your efforts and club. Ask yourself this:

what more could you have done?

Sb any reports on the game that 11 goals in your last 2 games i going tues at oxhey as i know a few people over there

Think we will rest a few on Tuesday.

From Berkhamstead FCs Website.

HANWELL TOWN 7 BERKHAMSTED 1

Hanwell got their reward for being the only team in the five divisions of the Spartan South Midlands League to have a fit pitch on Saturday as they sent Berkhamsted to their heaviest ever defeat. Mick Vipond was pleased to welcome back skipper Dan Griggs after a lengthy suspension, Glenn Thompson after injury and striker Connor Calcutt for his first game in 3 months.

Hanwell’s pacey young wingers gave the Berko full backs a torrid time and had the brains to cross carefully to create goals by picking out forwards who kept losing their markers. They took the lead in the 4th minute when Bill Healey converted a cross from the right wing shooting home. They were two up inside the first quarter of an hour when they went up the left wing and crossed for Connor Duffy to head past Carl Tasker. At the other end Calcutt had a shot that was just the wrong side of the post. Tasker kept Berko in the game with a fine save back-pedalling and was being kept busy. Berko survived a penalty appeal against Gavin for an alleged handball. Just before the interval Griggs was booked winning a tackle that saw the home player substituted.

Hanwell hit the bar with a header whilst Calcutt snapped a shot just inches beyond the post. Berko got the ball in the net when Griggs foolishly punched a cross into the goal to get his second yellow and reduce his team to 10 men. Jordon Frederick picked up a booking for dissent.

There was plenty goalmouth action on the slippy surface. Substitute Charlie Baverstock tapped in a third goal. Berko kept trying and Thompson spotted the keeper off his line and netted after one-two with Calcutt. Bekim Culaj had a free kick in a dangerous position but fired over the bar. Tasker came out to head an attempted clearance but the ball broke for Duffy to net his second to make it 4-1.

Vipond brought on teenage substitutes Ashley Morrissey and Harry Sedgley to add impetus. However, Josh Chamberlain scored an own goal that emphasised it was not the Comrades day. Youth team striker Mitchell Cole was brought on in his place. Two goals in injury time from Michael Buckley and Healey completed the rout.

Tasker; Gavin (Sedgley), Rodrigoe, Culaj, Nott-Macaire, Frederick, Thompson, Griggs, Calcutt Pritchard, (Morrissey) , Chamberlain(Cole). Subs. Not used Boad.

There was still snow on the pitch at Broadwater so the under 18 game with Hemel Hempstead on Thursday night was postponed as was the reserve game against Dunstable Town on Saturday.

Dale Sears, Frankie Jowle and Lawrence Bunker who all missed the Hanwell trip through work commitments may be in the squad for the trip to Haringey Borough on Saturday. Manager Mick Vipond will probably be without the injured Myles Stephenson. Midfielder Nick Ward broke his leg in a training in midweek and will be out for the season. Berko will be at home to Hillingdon Borough in another Premier division game on Tuesday 5th February.

Berko’s reserves are at home to Hartley Wintney in the Suburban League North on Saturday. The under 18 s are at Allstars Academy in the league on Thursday 31st and at home to Colney Heath in the cup on Thursday 7th.

Cheers sb so hanwell have pick up.

Back up ? if yes then we have a few fringe players that can be used but not many.

Our games with Oxhey Jets this season have been very tight so it could well go to extra time or even pens so it could be a long night thats one of the reasons i will not be at the game on Tuesday also ive got a 12 and half hour shift at work the next day and i have already been to Oxhey Jets twice this season.
