Something a little different

Eastside Urchin

I know we have been here before but I keep trying to think of ways to get our gates up.

I see in the other post our average is around 350 this season, not terrible but with the amount of people who live in the area,we all know/feel we can do better than this.

We have had all sorts of ideas before but I feel that it is going to take something a bit different from the normal ideas to get the crowds up,maybe something simple but not thought of before or maybe something out of the ordinary, whatever it is,someone, somewhere must b able to come up with something.I feel our crowds should be up around the 4-450 mark given the size of the area, maybe a bit more.So have a think about it,anything odd that you might of thought stupid in the past, may just be the answer

I think to start with we need to find out why more people aren't coming. This probabaly means some hardy soul(s) hanging around the Upminster shops area and asking people directly on a Saturday lunchtime. It's a thankless task and may not help much, but then again we may see a pattern.

Secondly, and I can imagine everyone rolling their eyes when they read this, I think aggressive behaviour from the terrraces doesn't help sometimes. I know its probably impossible to stop as players and managers do it, but foul language etc makes for an intimidating atmosphere, and I think it can possibly drive people, who may bring their families, away. A case in point, I heard several people commented on the Salisbury match - apparently it was especially bad.

Thirdly, places like Lakeside and Bluewater are always busy. No-one likes waiting in traffic to get to the car park, but people do it every week, and a lot of people stay all morning if not most of the day. Why ? Maybe its because there's something there for everyone. There's clothes shops for the ladies, gadget shops for the men, toy shops, coffee shops, ice cream bars, pizza restaurants etc etc. Look at most events and they will try and cater for everyone. My point is, it's not just about a game of football anymore - there has to be something else in order to attract people. The other things we have, i.e. a nice comfortable bar, football on the TV before the game, burger bar, club shop etc perhaps need to be brought more to the fore.

Anyway, just saying....

We did want to upgrade the club shop at the start of the season but unfortunately money has gone on the toilets instead, the supporters association donated the cash for the ones in the bar.We are also donating a large amount of cash for new dugouts which need to be put in in the next few weeks.

Think the club also wanted to update the food side of things but money being tight and gates being poor has not allowed them to do this yet.

I think that if we stay in this league our club shop needs updating, when we bought it it served a purpose but as a Conference South Club I think we need something a bit bigger and better.

I didn't particularly think the Salisbury game was that bad Rob,a few times the odd comment was made but I den hear anything too untoward
