Div 2 representative team

Recommended Posts

I think these Rep games are a good idea if the timing is right & there's no fixture pile up. When I was coaching & Managing I would always encourage our players to go if selected & I also co-Managed the ESL Rep side. Speaking from that experience I found that most clubs were very helpful in releasing players. As a player I was lucky enough to get selected once (think that was more of a case of being in the wrong place at the right time !) for a Rep match & it was at Highbury back in 1993. I scored a penalty at the North Bank end when the famous mural was up !

What chances would they have in the cup, how far would they go?

If they got a fully representative Div Two side - and were able to organise training sessions - they would have a 'decent' chance.

But the two provisos are probably needed as some of the sides they could play will have four or five 'League' Rep sides fixtures each season!!

I think the fixture situation is a valid point. We still have 16 games to play (assuming we go out of both Cups in the next round) and I think there are 16 Saturdays left so if we win a Cup game or lose another Saturday to the weather then we are looking at midweek games already around the time this game will be played. If Simon can get the best players then I think the team could give the competition a good go.
