Div 2 representative team

Recommended Posts

I see in Mr Scholes' newsletter of 12th Jan that Simon Lacey of Tring Corries is in charge of the team. I didn't know there was a rep team for Div 2, but can now see that it plays in an FA competition and is playing the Middlesex League on 27th April according to the FA website. I wouldn't think many teams would want to release players for this game or do the League insist they do? I have seen some previous posts from Mr Rhodes, Winslow Boy and others on this topic when the team played before. So will it be a truly representative side or just another game for Tring Corries to fit in to their already hectic season?

Well it was the 61 manager for ages and it was basically the 61 team. Simon is a football man and I think he will look to try and get best players he can he knows a lot of players in Aylesbury area so I'm sure he will go to Aston Clinton and Risboro but depends whether teams would release players

Aston Clinton, Corries and ourselves haven't played half of our League games yet and are still involved in at least 2 Cups so another game is the last thing some of our better players will need.

I always think it should be a proper representative team, otherwise it is a joke. Not sure though how the manager will be able to make an informed decision without proper scouting. Not sure if its still the case but I'm sure the winning league used qualify for a European tournament.

The SSMFL Division Two side has entered the FA Inter-League Trophy for Leagues at Step Seven - a tournament run over two seasons.

According to the FA website, all First Round games are scheduled to be played on Saturday 27th April 2013: http://www.thefa.com/Competitions/FACompetitions/TheFANLSCup/Fixtures

As the SSMFL have been drawn away, I'm guessing the ability to 'reschedule' the fixture will be limited.

And finally, the League that wins the Trophy represents England in UEFA Regions Cup. Jersey, as the 2012 winners are scheduled to play in San Marino to final for the Final Stages of the tournament.

To give this type of competition a little bit more prestige, id like to see a ruling which states that all step 7 rep sides that enter the competition must have a squad made up of players registered to a minimum of 6 different clubs.

This would give the competition a little bit more credibility, and also deter rep sides from playing predominantly the current rep managers own squad of players.

Although I'm sure it's potentially hard to get together a mixture of willing players from different clubs (due to not knowing anyone else, having to travel further afield, not interested in playing in the competition etc), I'm sure it can be done.

It's not just our league with problems getting players from different clubs - I went to Guersney (as photographer) with the Herts County league a few years ago (middle of Feb and it snowed!). The County League side was managed by the Met Police manager, and apart from a couple of players from London Lions and Baldock it was all Met Police players.

As well as the rep team manager having to scout for players, it's also probably very difficult to set up training sessions for the squad in the middle of the season.

Remember that season. Did they lose 3-1?

I'm pretty certain last season or maybe 2 years ago they confirmed anyone not available couldn't play for their club on that day. Also think if more than 1 selected they cancelled the fixture. Think there was a wider selection of clubs though.

Many Leagues that enter have a policy which allows a club to postpone their First Team fixture if they have more than one player selected for their Rep XI.

They did host a Herts County League "home" game.

It was a friendly against the Spartan South Midlands Div 2 rep side.
