From the GFC website =

Another Away Draw in the FA Carlsberg Vase

Ely City or Spalding United will play Guernsey FC or Rye United in the FA Carlseberg Vase 5th Round.

GFC and Rye United meet on Saturday (26th Janurary) and whoever wins will be heading north for the next round.

...

Ely United are based in Cambridgeshire and play their football in the Eastern Counties League Premier Division and are 13th in the league.

Spalding United are in Lincolnshire in the United Counties Premier Division. They are 2nd in their division, 17 points behind the leaders Holbeach United, with 4 games in hand.

Spalding beat Ely last night so Guernsey face a trip to Lincolnshire.

I 'listened in' on Twitter and sounded like a tight match. New striker at Spalding bagged a couple. Alleged Step 2 player, which means he must be getting on. GFC v Hanworth final !

The new striker is Gary King - just signed from Stamford who are a top step 4 side. He scored 8 goals in 25 starts for them this season. It says on the Stamford website that Spalding made him - "an offer he just couldn't turn down".

Other players they have who I've heard of (but had to check who they played for!) - Lee Canoville who's played for teams like Torquay, Boston & Notts County, Chris Hall (ex-Burton Albion), Luke Kennedy (ex-Rushden & Diamonds) and Tony Battersby (Sheffield United, Notts County, Lincoln City and loads of others) so plenty of league and top Conference experience in their side.

In the latest betting Spalding are 10/1 fourth favourites to win the Vase.

Don't accept any offer of working on the local farms.

That's the preserve of imported 'imigrants' !
